I am glad that this forum is available as it is difficult to have this discussion although my wife has been awesome in supporting me through my battles with UC. I have been lucky in some respects with UC. I was first diagnosed in 1989 and have largely avoided the long term flareups that affect people's quality of life. I am retired and have no physical limitations that keep me from anything. I rarely have flareups and if I do, they do not last long.
Having said that, my doctor, who I saw for 30 years before he retired, and my new GI stated I needed to take a Biologic and I started Entyvio in October 2018. I take it bi-monthly.
I had a colonoscopy last month, and my GI was delighted with the results and stated he saw little to no UC and I was in remission. I was also taking Asocol and he told me I no longer had to take it and to continue with the Entyvio. It was the first time in several years I was actively in remission although I have not had serious symptoms.
Several days ago, I noticed that my stools were enormous and even commented on it to my wife. Yesterday, I noticed some blood on the TP and around my stools. It was not in my stools if that makes sense. I immediately administered a Canassa suppository to see if that would help with the bleeding. This morning I noticed the blood on the TP again, which was bright red. No mucus, no diarrhea but normal stools. I am going to call my GI tomorrow.
Is it possible that it is a fissure or a hemmoroid? I am experiencing no pain when I take a stool. Honestly, I was in a good place with the UC and the bleeding is kind of freaking me out.
