I have decided to make a major dietary change and, after being vegetarian my whole life, I am going to start eating certain healthy meats and see how I feel. The reason is my ulcerative colitis does not allow me to digest insoluble fibers and I simply cannot gain back all my lost weight. I also hypothesize that it might change the contents of my microbiome. I am thinking of starting with chicken. When going to restaurants, how do you all ensure that the meat is clean/healthy (organic, grass-fed, etc)? I do not want to expose myself to more chemicals and hormones since I know many places might use these kinds of cheap and harmful cheap options. Obviously, I am not going to go to the fast food type places. Any tips you all have is very much appreciated, thanks!

Other than only going to restaurants that make a point of only serving organic or free range meat you can’t know.

On a related point, and you probably know this, when starting to eat meat again after being a vegetarian for a long time it’s best to start slow and with small amounts.

I think restaurants that serve organic/grass fed/etc will make a point of advertising it somewhere, because it is more expensive for them and many customers value this. If they don't mention it on their menu/promo materials, you can probably assume it's not organic...

Good luck! I also cannot digest vegan protein when I'm flaring (and honestly have some exhaustion with climate warriors who keep telling us all to go vegan)

I think the others are right about restaurants. Seems high end restaurants usually have organic and grass fed meats but eating out can be hard. I agree with you — when I was flaring I felt my body was craving meat protein as I was wasting away and got down to under 100 lbs. as far as the switch and your body adjusting maybe you could start with homemade bone broth?

Omnivore....carnivore is meat only.
We dont digest insoluble fibres...they do play an important role in digestion and stool formation.
You can also consider digestive enzymes.

Let us know how you do with the change.

just avoid restaurants as much as possible - and also avoid stepping barefoot in poop - Merry Christmas !
