Been a while since I've posted here because I've been doing quite well. Had UC around 18 years now. Scopes are fine, but I'm still having nagging symptoms more in line with IBS and have been looking for something more natural to help with that last 3-5% of my issues. Mainly I react to certain foods (it's never consistent) and I often have negative reactions to things like multivitamins (which are supposed to be helpful). Blood work always comes back fine so my doc is sort of just ok with checking in on me every year, but stools are often unformed or thinner even though I go about once a day. So, I'm looking for anything to help with these nagging symptoms.

I've googled around and found some interesting theories from this dude Dr. Snow (probably not a real Doc, lets be real). I know protocols can be dumb and also ineffective (if not a bit griftery), but I borrowed some stuff from him like taking colostrum with probiotics and had a little luck. I eventually had some negative reactions to both colostrum and probiotics so I stopped. Nothing crazy good and I have not paid for his services, but I'm wondering if others on this forum have had any experience with him. If you google around you can find slight variations on his protocol and he often gives tips away on his facebook posts.

Any thoughts on diving head first into something like this or are there better natural options that I can manage on my own that I just haven't found yet?

Sorry, I removed the link it is considered advertising, falls under rule 4. We don't make the rules, the administrator makes them. I made it so anyone can google.

What are the reactions you had with probiotics?

Have you used fibre supplements?

What meds are you on?

I checked out the website & you are correct he is not an MD. He is into holistic/naturalpath. He cannot write scripts for any pharmaceutical. Not somebody I would pay several hundred dollars to for an online visit. My red flag went up when I found that a person can become one these anywhere from 6-10 months. Nothing wrong with trying some reasonable things to see if they work.

I know you had tried VSL previously & had trouble with it. We are all different, some can take them & some cannot. It could be an IBS type of thing. You might want to keep a food journal for a bit to track your food.

Hope you get to feeling better.

Oh god, not dr snow again. We get posters every now and then about that absolute fraudster. Search this forum, and you'll see a bunch of posts on this, some locked.

Please no, do not give your money to him or follow his bs.

Quincy: My reactions to probiotics are gas, diarrhea, brain fog. Just generally feel out of it and these all get better when I take a break from them. I've never tried fiber supplements before. What types would you recommend? Currently not on any medication with my symptoms and per my doc recommendation. He gave me a script for an IBS meds, but I haven't tried them out.

iPoop: Yeah, I googled the forum, but didn't see anyone who maybe bought into his whole shtick and had experience with it. He's pretty out there and I think gaming Google algorithms to get his posts super high that way desperate people with UC land on his stuff. I shouldn't have got roped into even reading his facebook, but was feeling slightly down and I guess went down a rabbit hole.

I would first use a food and symptom journal. Sometimes symptoms can just be a coincidence. Psyllium husk or seed powders are good fiber supplements. Start small and add more as you can tolerate.

I am/was like you. In remission but still had runny poo (once a day) and abdominal pain when I ate. Went on the breaking the vicious cycle which helped. Then added in wild oregano oil and coconut kefir and basically with that mix went back to pretty normal. I am less strict about my diet now (after 5 years) and don’t use the oregano oil too often anymore but still drink coconut kefir everyday. The combo has helped my last nagging symptoms which only come back if I really go crazy about my diet.

Hi .....sorry for the late reply. I take metamucil capsules....originally started with one capsule with breakfast for a few days, then added one capsule with supper for a few days ( eat 2 main meals a day). I continued that process until I reached 6 with each meal.
What's good about using capsules is that I can carry some with me when eating out.

I also take probiotics at bedtime. Have you tried varied types? What I use is in my signature.
