My recovery continues apace. I'm having a hard time getting off of prednisone, so I'm reducing the dose by 2.5mg at a time. Right now I'm down to 17.5mg. I feel so weak and tired, but no bowel bleeding at least.
Because I have pancolitis and this flare did a lot of damage, my colonic transit time is still fast. Food I eat comes out in 12 hours, almost exactly. So that's annoying, but I'm guessing it's something that will just take time to heal, since my colon is thickened throughout right now. My CRP is below 4 and my anemia is gradually correcting, so yay! I also started low dose naltrexone (LDN) again, which is always a huge help... and I kicked all the pain killers to the curb, so my mind feels more normal.
One thing that is weird though, is that I'm having a paradoxical diarrhea effect. Most UCers who have hard, dry stool will bleed and experience a lot of pain. Not me. The harder and dryer, the better. Even if I have to push a bit to get it out, I never bleed from stool like that.
If the stool suddenly turns soft, slippery, or even slightly liquidy? Then I get blood streaked stool. I don't understand this. This morning I had a harsh, dry BM and I was fine. Then I passed the blueberry smoothie I had yesterday, which was effortless to pass by BM, and there was blood.
What gives? Why does looser stool encourage rectal bleeding while harder stool doesn't?
