I have had UC since 2005, but was diagnosed in 2011. I've been on all sorts of meds, but Lialda put me in a colonoscopy diagnosed real remission, no ulcers, in 2014.

When Lialda went generic, my insurance required that I receive the generic pill labeled 711, which is similar to the Lialda; my system was a little iffy on that, but eventually adjusted to it. I felt like I was on Lialda again.

After a couple years, mail order company changed the generic and sent me the generic pill labeled M1200 (pink). After a month of taking that I was in a full blown flare and had to go back on rectal meds and I was in horrible pain and just a mess, for 2 1/2 months.

My insurance changed once again, the first of this year, and I was able to get the pills labeled 711; I'm slowly, but surely getting back to normal.

I'm wondering if others have had the same experience or if I just had that out of the blue flare that my doctor warned me of.

Some have had issues switching between mesalamines. Many have had no problem.

Hmm the M1200's are Mylan's generic of Lialda. The 711's are Zydus's generic of lialda.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could request a specific manufacturer of a generic from the pharmacy, instead of getting a random brand? After a lot of research, it appears lialda is the closest equivalent to the Salofalk tabs I get from Canada (at great out-of-pocket expense), but after reading this I would be scared to try switching, unless I could get the meds from the brand name manufacturer.
I do think the brand and type of mesalamine can make a huge difference, as it did for me. That's why I am stuck on the Canadian version even though I am currently residing in the United States,

Best you can do is get a very clear prescription from your doctor that states use X medication and no substitutes, which you can get from your gasteroenteroligist.

I've called around to local pharmacies and you can find out which manufacturer of "generic Lialda" they sell.

Just learn to speak-pharmacy. Everything is based on NDC codes, it tells you mylan/shire/zydus, it tells you really everything. If you want the X manufacturer pills then they can look up if they can get it, if it is in stock, etc etc
