Hi guys,

I have UC and been suffering from a severe flare for the past 5 months. I finally started taking uceris about 10 days ago. I have taken Uceris before and it has helped but it works really slowly now. I got a blood test done and for the first time my glucose is high. I have been taking regular blood tests but my glucose was always in the normal range. Since I began Uceris it has increased. Is this concerning? Will it cause me to have diabetes?

I wouldn't worry about it. My glucose has been high when I'm on prednisone before. It is not high for me on Uceris though. Anyway, my glucose went back to normal after I got off pred, so I'm sure yours will too. Is your doctor worried about it?

No, you can't up the dose. It could take a couple weeks or longer to work. If it doesn't work, you could ask your doctor for prednisone.

Uceris/budesonide and prednisone are known as glucocorticoids due to there powerful effect on blood sugar. Your sugar levels are going to be high while on steroids, expected, so do ignore that reading for the duration of which you are on steroids.

The dosage of Uceris is fixed, it works best on mild inflammation only. You should get a response in 2-weeks or less.

I have had some control on my BM due to the Uceris but its not coming to that much control. I have not reacted well to prednisone before and too afraid to take it.
