My uc forum friend Ania (who doesn't speak English well) has a great request to those of you who have been taking xifaxan (rifaximinum) antibiotic. She would like to try it and has just got a prescription from a doctor. However, as xifaxan is not widely used in Poland, she had an impression that the doctor was quite at a loss and didn't know how it should be taken. That's why she would like to compare her prescribed dosage with someone else. Her prescription is for xifaxan 200mg (tablets) and the dosage is 2 tablets daily for seven days. Any ideas on xifaxan would be appreciated smile

My script was for one tablet (550 milligrams) two times a day.

She does NOT need to take food with it.

Xifaxian may cause dizziness when she first starts to take it.

Those were the two pharmacy notes on my bottle

Great thanks ks on behalf of Ania!!! it seems that your dosage was much higher than that prescribed for her. Let's hope it will work as well

What is she using it for? I used it for pouchitis. It didn’t work as well as cipro or amoxicillin for me.

It is VERY expensive

She told me she'd seen an advert somewhere which said that xifaxan was precisely targeting uc so she decided to try it. However, as far as I know, she's not in a flare presently so imo she's treating it as some sort of 'cleansing therapy'. Anyway, I'm very curious about her results and I am myself impatiently awaiting brilacidin.

I thought it was more for SIBO, celiac disease and Travelers Diarrhea.
