No it is *insert expletive* not due to inner conflict. Do not beat yourself up. I can get very angry when people make this judgement about me. Actually ended up in therapy because of it, where I learned to accept that s*it happens and it's not my fault. The medical community abandoned the idea that UC is a mental health problem about 50 years ago...

Ps therapy was great for my mental health but did nothing for my UC. My UC was best treated with medication.

I have heard a lot of crazy stuff. We once had a guy here that said drinking urine helped his UC. Everyone has an opinion on everything, but most people put very little effort into understanding that same thing they are so opinionated about. I personally have a generally poor mental state but I do not for one second believe it's related to my UC. Both of my parents have "weak" stomachs. I am sure what they've got is actually something much more sinister than they let-on. In my case, I think it's genetic. I guess there was probably some sort of environmental trigger that may have resulted in the worst case - perhaps antibiotics or a bug... I wish it was as simple as "avoid internal conflict", get better.

I completely disagree that it is somehow caused in our minds.

I'm always in mental conflict but UC is good. Go figure. But, UC flaring, being sick, having to take meds, and having crappy idiot arsehole people in our lives who like blame it on our mental state etc can sure exacerbate those mental conflicts (such as how to excise them from our lives).

Hambo, my suggestion is stop believing everything you read on the internet. There is too much incorrect information out there. I love to read but if I want to learn about a medical problem I go to a reputable medical website. I sought professional help, it did not make my health problems go away, nor did I get told my issues were self induced. I don't know about the people you are discussing this with but they sound uninformed.
