It may seem to be only common sense but I was severely criticized for saying this in my previous thread. But here is a small sample of reputable publications that say that the coronavirus can indeed be spread thru feces.

And I was also accused of being racist for saying that many parts of China have primitive bathroom habits. Well that must mean that Fortune Magazine is also racist:

Fortune Magazine
Rectal swabs can detect the pneumonia-causing virus in patients even when conventional oral tests are negative, doctors at the Wuhan Pulmonary Hospital in central China said in a study.

Squat latrines, common in China, lacking covers and hands that aren’t washed thoroughly with soap and water after visiting the bathroom, could be a source of virus transmission, said Nicholls, who was part of the research team that isolated and characterized the SARS virus.

Dear Mods,

Ban IAC. You locked a thread and IAC just couldn’t let it go, this isn’t the first time. He’s acting like a petulant little child.

IAC,

I objected to your bigotry when you said that homeless people in the US could be spreading Corona virus because of fecal matter when in fact the people who carried and transmitted the disease were people who could afford an international airline flight and health workers retransmitted the disease.

There are no facts that homeless people are spreading this virus. Just like a lot of your other conspiracy theories that are baseless. GO AWAY

Yes, the fecal transmission path has been well established at this point. Obviously it spreads through respiratory droplets as well but hopefully that means transmission rates slow in more developed countries.

But I worry it may spell trouble for places like India, certain parts of Africa as well as homeless areas in San Fran and LA. Hopefully it all works out okay in the end.

KS1905,

I never said that the homeless in America were spreading the virus. But I expressed fear that the virus could take hold once it infects those who indulge in public defecation in Seattle and San Francisco.

I realise that logic and common sense fly out the window when people get hysterical and panicky.
Some wild tantrums being thrown smile

It does sound like a racist slur to try to claim that China is a 'primitive outdoor toilet'! The guy who wrote the blog was ranting about the evils of socialism. It really was a ridiculously uninformed blog.

Chinese cities, where most people live, are advanced, modern, sophisticated and clean.

It is an upper respiratory virus. It spreads like other flu viruses,
People can certainly make suppositions about 'fecal' transmission. There are certainly reasons to avoid fecal contamination (other than coronavirus). However, upper respiratory infections are mostly spread through nasal, and oral droplets moving from one host to another. Sneezing, coughing and breathing in those air born particles are the main routes of infection (hence the masks). Hand-washing and avoiding contact with sick people is the main defense.

There is no need to create panic. There is no need to try to say that the Chinese have bad hygiene.
On the contrary, it seems that it is the 'clean' countries that have more cases! Even so, infection rates are still extremely low.
Interestingly, the virus seems to favor old people. Children seem to be ok.

Why would the mods ban him for defending himself and sharing very relevant information? I for one am happy you posted this -- thank you for sharing information! I'm putting more people on ignore.

The mods locked the thread so he went and reopened another thread to start it up all over again. BAN HIM. This isn’t the first time.

Yes IamCurious...thanks for posting.

We know how easy C. Diff spreads fecally...we must be very vigilant with hand washing in the coming months as many of us are immune suppressed...so trying to limit any potential infection vectors of this new virus is a great idea.

The previous thread was locked because ks1905 and ambling turned an informative thread into a food fight. They are ones who should be banned.

Did you see Sara's tantrum? No , of course not. Selective reading. There's a reason that things get debated on open forum. It's healthy and it's reasonable. Adults can discuss things, it doesn't mean we need to agree with each other.

Correct, which is why scientists were surprised to find the virus in fecal matter in high quantities, very unique for a respiratory virus.

Care to share that link?
It's possible people could swallow mucus that makes it into the feces... I really don't know. Even so it is hardly likely to be a major route of transmission.
