Hello,

I hope everyone is staying safe from covid-19.

Last time i was on here I was complaining about tinnitus and lialda. I tried to stop taking lialda for a month to see if it would help. it didn't and im back on 2 tablets again. I still have some minor ringing, but it doesn't bother me as much anymore, and i'm hoping it still fades.

So i have had UC for about 3.5 years now and I never had any blood. For the majority of that time I have been doing well. 1-3bm a day, no really significant symptoms. this whole time i have been eating and drinking pretty much whatever I want. 2 weeks ago I started to notice a drop or two of blood in my stool/ or on the toilet paper when i wipe. since then i've had it consistently. Usually all of the stool passes first before i see a drop of blood come out.

This is all very concerning because I never had blood before. I don't have any increase in urgency or BMs so i figured it might be an internal hemmy. Ive been taking sitz baths, wiping with witch hazel and ive taken 2 hydrocortisone ememas over the last two weeks, which seemed to help a little but then went back to blood.

Any idea why this might be happening or suggestions?

Im 26 yo

Thank you,
Albert

Not sure, but 2 Lialda is a maintenance dose. Max to treat a flair is 4 tablets. You could call your doc and ask.

If the enemas help, you could use them daily for a week or 2 and then taper off and see what happens

It could be something peri-anal like hemorrhoids, or could be a minor flare as you were off of lialda for a month. You could ask your gasteroenterologist for an Inflammation Test: Calprotectin stool test or C-Reactive Protein blood test. Then you'd know whether it is a flare or not.

You can try preparation H hemorrhoid suppositories or rectal creams to see if it improves the blood.

Ditto 4 lialda a day is better, if there is Inflammation. Same with daily enemas.

I have been back on the lialda (2 a day) for sometime nowi will try to up it to 4 for a little while. I will also try doing the mesalamine emenas every night for a while and see how that goes.

I feel okay, but im worried that this is a flare. It would be my first true flare up in a wile, and first time seeing this much blood. It is VERY upsetting that my old maintenance routine might not cut it anymore.... thats perhaps the most upsetting thing about this whole situation right now. Its got me thinking the disease may have progressed.

Anyway, thank you!

albear, this UC seems to morph all the time and always disappointing when it rears its ugly head after a calm period. Don't despair...go through it methodically. Test if it's a flare, then decide with your Doc the best next step. I've had a long period of remission until a couple of years ago when I became unstable and have had to up the ante on meds a couple of times. Good luck to you!
