I'm in recovery from my last flare, down to 10mg of prednisone and holding. Been taking lots of curcumin meriva, boswellia, and other things to help me transition off of pred. Then boom I get corona. Symptoms are mild, but I tested positive. Hospital wouldn't keep me because I wasn't serious. I'm stuck at home, my anxiety is very, very high. I feel imprisoned in my home. They say I can't leave until 2 weeks after my last symptom, and only then to go to the hospital to get re-tested.

I've been skyping with loved ones but there is no way to really quell my anxiety. I have panic attacks regularly. My BMs are much more frequent, but still solid which is weird. No blood, just frequency. My biggest fear is flaring and then being trapped in my home where I can't get help. Usually when I flare people come to bring me stuff and keep me company but they can't do that now.

The isolation is really affecting my mental health, and now that I actually have corona my mental health is much worse. Between what's happening to me and what's happening in the world I am full of existential terror.

I'm in recovery from a flare too, currently at 5 mg pred. I also have valley fever which was made worse by the prednisone. I'll probably be exposed to the virus since my wife is a healthcare worker dealing with sick patients every day. It's only a matter of time I think.
Glad to hear your symptoms are mild. As you probably know, a U.C. flare comes on over a period of weeks, so it's very unlikely that you will be trapped in your home and unable to get help for a flare. To me, solid BMs are more important than frequency. Inflamed guts don't create formed stool so I'm sure the frequency is a result of your anxiety.
Try to relax yourself and think positive thoughts as much as you can. Let us know how things go!

I've been having frequency for months, it's just worse now. Can't explain it. The worst of my flare ended Jan 1 but when I eat it comes out 12 hours later. No change in over 2 months. I don't get it. I've changed up my diet. It makes my stool more solid and clean looking, but transit time still the same. I'm guessing there's still inflammation. Trying my best to get off pred but it's hard. Every time I taper down my mood gets worse because it makes me feel lethargic.

I'm hacking up a lot of phlegm and the coughing keeps me awake at night. Weird though how mild this is. Last year I got the flu virus and it was also mild. Before I got UC I would have crazy seasonal illness and now it's like a walk in the park. I don't get what changed.

I live in an apartment building and my neighbours have been made aware that I have covid19, so this building is being sterilized many times a day. I feel like an outcast. The only way I can get groceries is from places that deliver, but they leave them at my door and then walk away.

It takes the average person 3 weeks to recover from corona. I was told I can't step out of my apartment until 2 weeks after my last symptom, so I am looking at more than a month of quarantine no matter what. The isolation is brutal, I'm not even allowed to go for walks anymore, even if it's the middle of the night and nobody is around. It's because to leave my building I have to touch stuff that other people will touch, like the elevator. I can't believe what is happening to the world right now. It freaks me out and I have no one here to really comfort me, just lots of computer chats. If my internet goes down I don't know what I'll do.

Since getting U.C., I rarely ever get sick with colds or flu anymore, and if I do, i get over it quickly.
If it's mild you may get over it faster than average.

Just think, in about 2 weeks time, you won't have to worry about coronavirus any more.
My sister had suspected coronavirus last week, but we don't know for sure because the UK gvt won't test unless you end up in hospital. She felt better after a week, but she had terrible paranoia and existential anxiety while she was sick. Actually phoned the gp and he prescribed some anti anxiety meds, but then she didn't want to take them.

I suggest picking up the telephone and reaching out to those you may have lost touch with over the years or calling close friends and loved ones several times throughout the day.

In several weeks you will be able to help your friends and family if needed. There is a long road ahead for everyone and you will be able to put all the anxiety behind you and assist others when you are healed.

Sorry to hear you got corvid19, but glad it's mild. If it gets worse do go back to the hospital. As it can turn into pneumonia. The hacking up phlegm sounds like pneumonia.

So sorry to hear this, but thankfully it's mild! How long have you been sick?

Reach out to friends & family via phone, facetime, skype, email etc. It will help with the loneliness. And if you have a crazy uncle who drives you mad give him a call. It may help you to appreciate being alone lol

Find things to do ... watch movies, surf the net, read, if you cook try new recipes.

It sucks that you can't go outside at all. I am a homebody under normal circumstances but I live in the woods so I can always go outside. I think if I was trapped inside I would start going stir crazy too. But you gotta stay in because you don't want to chance infecting someone else. Staying in make you a super hero of sorts ... you are saving other who may not get a mild case.

Hang in there!! We're all rooting for you! It's scary as hell, but just keep telling yourself you can do this. One day at a time.Hope you start feeling better soon!!

If you are having panic attacks I strongly suggest you contact your doctor for an anti anxiety medication. Panic attacks are miserable and there’s no need to suffer through them. No one likes to take medication but if you find what works for you, it’ll be so much better for your overall health. It might be a benzo like Xanax or an antidepressant. Please try one.

We’re here to listen and help with your boredom. How long have you been sick? We can do a countdown.

I think it’s reprehensible to not have enough testing available as in poopy doors sisters case. How do people know if they’re infected others or not if they don’t know if they have it?

Anyway hope you start feeling better soon!

I agree with Flowers. Call you doc and get something that can help dampen your anxiety during this time. Shouldn't be a problem for them to call in the script for you and have it delivered to you very quickly

Sorry to read that you have tested positive. Hopefully you will recover soon. HW has an anxiety forum with a resource page. You may want to check it out for some self help suggestions.

As for the people in your building, I am sure they are grateful that you are following the guidelines for the virus. If I lived in your building I know I would. Who knows, someone else in that building could have the virus. It makes good sense for them to be sanitizing the common areas to prevent spreading the virus, think about people in & out all of the time. Any of them could have the virus & not have symptoms. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Delivery people are instructed to have as little contact with people. We had a pizza delivered the other evening that I paid for, including the tip at the time I ordered it. He put the pizza on the little table by the front door & rang the doorbell. I had zero interaction with the driver.

Take care of yourself.

VJ, adding my well wishes to everyone before me. Hang in there! Mental wellbeing is so important - esp when fighting an illness -- any illness. The statistics on COVID still favor recovery for 95-98 out of 100 people in places where hospitals are not overrun.

I agree with iPoop, very important to determine if pneumonia has set in and getting help if so. Pls call your doctor.

Stay in touch with the Forum. Best of luck, and remember the odds are hugely in your favor!

I'm so sorry to hear of your corona diagnosis. I concur that it might be a good idea to get some short-term anti-anxiety medication if you can get it delivered. It's no wonder you're feeling anxious right now! Heaven knows I am, and so are most of the friends I've talked to (remotely). Maybe check out some guided meditation videos on YouTube? I've been trying some of those. Try to distract yourself with funny stuff on TV.

Do keep an eye on your symptoms and definitely call your doctor if the symptoms get worse. I'm glad to hear they're mild so far. That will be the case for most people.

It's hard not to panic if you have to stay isolated at home for an indeterminate period-- so try to stay positive by distracting yourself with some kind of "normal" routine, like easy stretching exercises, listening to music, watching a DVD, or reading for a while. BTW, a 12-hour transit time is not bad, considering that the virus nabbed you. Hopefully, that will lengthen before long. Rather than anti-anxiety meds, the doc should recommend a good multivitamin supplement for you if you're not already taking one daily; especially if you can't go outdoors for a couple more weeks you probably need to supplement vit D3-- very important for UCers. Hang in there & keep us posted! We are all in this together! My mother survived the 1918 flu pandemic as a child with 4 sibs who had to take turns lying down beside their mom so that she could comfort them-- no meds at all to help, just their dad & near age 80 grandma who did not fall ill & kept the household running. That story always inspires me. / Old Hat (39 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Old Hat - that IS an inspiring story! I am reminding myself daily that far more people have relatively mild cases of Covid 19 than who end up hospitalized. I am still taking this VERY seriously, but that thought at least gives me some comfort

Van -- hope that you are feeling a little better today. Please give us an update when you can. I know we're all thinking of you and wishing you the best.

A person can walk around with Covid without symptoms and infect other people. You can get it by touching something another person (infected) has touched, through droplets, etc. That's why we are supposed to just stay indoors until this thing is under control.

Keep washing your hands, don't touch your face and disinfect all packages that you receive. Also, dogs cannot get Covid or transmit it. I am reading of people putting their pets down. Please do not do this.

Holy **** Even if my dog got coronavirus I wouldn't have her put down!! I don't understand some people. I'm more worried about what will happen to her if *I* get sick.

I've been leaving cardboard packages 24 hours where possible (fresh food is more difficult) before opening them. Apparently it can live 3 days on plastic, great.

Sad to hear VJ...I hope you're feeling a bit better daily. Lots of good suggestions to help keep you somewhat occupied. Follow the instructions of the doctors to keep others safe. Keep in touch with others as you are.

Hang tough!!!

Anxiety can easily create frequency. Sending you healing energy. I strongly recommend meditation. I work as a psychotherapist and mediation teacher. Think about getting on Insight Timer which is a free amazing APP. I have mediations on there also. If interested look Anne Marie Allen. Meditation can also help support a healthy immune system.

It is strange as others have commented, but even when in a flare I don't seem to get the same illnesses as my family other than this nasty food poisening thing I have of which I made a post.

Be well and Namaste

Poopydoop and CGK: My dog passed away in October. He was 18 years old. If he was alive, I would never even think about putting him down because of this virus. In my opinion, anyone that does that does not deserve to have a pet.

Sorry to hear about your dog. My Dog will turn 12 May 1st. Hopefully he makes it to 18 in good health. We are all madly in love with him and wish he could live forever. He's a Havanese.

I've been sick for about 5 days now. I'm hacking up phlegm but it's not pneumonia, I was given a chest x-ray and all that. But it has gone into my lungs. Feels very similar to the flu. I am mostly tired of all the coughing.

My anxiety comes from many places. I was already in isolation for about 4 months due to my flare, and then just as I was about to be well enough to start rejoining the world, I'm back in isolation again. Everyone is grieving because of loss of income and isolation, but that has been my reality since September. So having it extended is really hard on my psyche. I'm not sure that recovering from corona means I can go out and be free in the world. The scientists haven't figured out if reinfection is possible due to mutation, so I might still have to practice the same quarantine procedures all of society is doing.

I am grieving the loss of my life. UC already has stolen so much time from me. I have lost relationships, work, income, hope, you name it. I'm only 35 but I feel like I might as well be 80. Most of my friends are no longer in my life because they have progressed beyond me, and I am still right where they left me. I have one or two good friends I still see, except not anymore thanks to corona. I'd get therapy but I can't afford it. A registered counsellor is about $140 per session. That's too steep for me.

I do at home workouts, talk to friends on the phone, work on my new website, and I'm studying a couple of university courses to learn things I'm interested in. But my anxiety never really goes away. Between what's happening to me and what's happening in the world, I don't feel like I want to live in this reality. I have suffered a lot and the suffering never seems to end. I'm just happy to not be in the worst flare state like I was a few months ago. I just wish the 12 hour transit time would calm down. It's not due to anxiety, I've been having this for months. In past flares the transit time got better as time went on but it has barely changed at all. I'm at a loss.

Someone recently said to me it's not about the cards you've dealt it's how you play your hand, but my options are very limited.
