I'm a UC-er who has been in full remission since 2013 on Imuran. During the bad days of 2013 my UC presented in my joints as much as my colon.

For the last year I've had a nagging pain on the left side of my body. I think its rib pain as it can present in front and behind. It's always to the side and never on the spine. I just cannot shake this issue. My spine MRI showed nothing abnormal. My bloods are fine. My bowel is fine. I've had physio sessions and seen my GI and a Rheumy who did an overall boy-wide arthritis exam which I passed.

Yet I cannot get rid of this rib injury. I also have an Achilles Tendon issue. At the back of my mind I have a nagging sense that there is more to this than meets the eye and that it is UC connected at a certain low simmering level. If Kazbern was still on this site she would talk enthesitis issues.

Has anyone had rib issues with UC even while flaring?

I've had ribcage pain frequently over the years. Pain in fingers, toes, wrists, chest, elbows, knees, hips, SI as well. My joint pain started before I had any UC symptoms. My ribcage pain is always both sides and does not necessarily happen when I have a UC flare. I believe costochondritis was my diagnosis at some point. I have left sided pain up under my ribcage that is different from the costochondritis. This pain is newer and seems to be associated with my current flare. I think it's the left sided colitis. A CT in March showed I also have cysts in my spleen which have grown over the years. So my GI wasn't able to rule that out as a contributing factor.

I had all of those same pains, ribs, achilles tendon, plus some really hideous pain in my tailbone a year ago. My Gi suggested that it could be one of two things:
1- a reaction to tapering off prednisone after having been on it for 6 months
2-ankylosing spondylitis, which a good rheumatologist should be able to diagnose

Mine went away by mid June so I attributed it to coming off of Pred, but perhaps you should revisit the Rheumy and ask
