Hello! I'm in my third flare since last year. I have stubborn ulcerative proctitis. I was on rectal mesalamine suppositories and Apriso for six months or so, but they didn't really help and I had all kinds of side effects. I've been on prednisone twice to kick me out of acute flares.

My doctor now wants me on remicade. I feel like there has to be some drug between mesalamine and remicade.

Can anyone recommend anything? My gastro refuses to investigate anything but remicade.

There is imuran but tbh I would chose remicade over that. I was afraid to begin biologics but the difference between being on them versus only mesalazine was like night and day.

Mesalamine ENEMAS are much more effective than mesalamine suppositories.

You can try the enemas and or steroid foams or enemas. But IMHO the biologics are more effective than scary. I confess to all those fears And worries before I started entyvio. But I’m so glad I’m on it now —remission is sweet! For those of us in remission on biologics I think the biggest regret is always that we fought so hard against them and should have done it sooner. !

Thiopurines (azathiopurine, imuran or 6MP) is between remicade and mesalamine.

Remicade has been a total game changer for me, 8 years now mostly all in a remission, with no side effects, and not sick any more than my normal.
