Hello Everyone,
Some of you may have seen several posts from me in the past few months. I have been flaring since october and still am. I tried prednisone, uceris, and uceris foam so. far and nothing has worked. Before this flare I was in remission for 4 years through some ayurvedic medicine. I really do not want to take biologics and would like to try everything possible before choosing that route. Has anyone had any good experiences with any natural remedies getting them into remission?

TIA

I know many people have found some success with diets (eg Specific Carbohydrate Diet) and a variety of supplements such as L-glutamine. A few people have found remission on Low Dose Naltrexone, which is not natural but a less toxic drug but is used off-label for IBD patients. I would do a search in this forum, just type natural remedies for colitis and I am sure previous posts will turn up. If it’s out there, someone on here has tried it. I found a few years of remission through diet only. All the best to you.

A lot of people including myself have found that some supplements help such as curcumin. You can check our signatures.

Have you tried monitoring your diet to see if there are any foods that seem to trigger symptoms?

@journeytoheal I have been searching a lot through the forum. Over the years I have tried many things also such as following as strict diet that did keep me in remission for a while. I then had a flare and ayurveda kept me in remission for years. I am considering Qing Dai as many had success with it.

@IamCurious Oh wow I just noticed you are on a completely natural diet! Did you ever flare after following the diet and the supplements? Food honestly not much of a trigger for me. I dont seem to have any issue with what I am eating such as salmon, rice, lentils, potatoes, oats..

Actually I flared a couple of times over the past 10 years when I strayed off my diet. But I learned my lesson.

I needed to take antibiotics to jump-start myself back into remission, but only short term to end the flare. Diet and supplements are my 'maintenance meds'.

What type of antibiotics helped you out of a flare? I tried 3 steroids already and none helped me to reach remission. I want to stick to my ayurveda as my maintenance supplements as well.

I used Flagyl but supposedly antibiotics only help about 20 percent of IBDers.

I tried prednisone then eventually added uceris foam which helped but still as I tapered prednisone symptoms returned. I then tried Uceris pill and that has'nt done anything.

Qing Dai got me out of a three year flare. I just ordered capsules online and they worked like a charm! After three years of suffering I saw results from Qing Dai within a few days, started forming more solid stools and within a few weeks was in remission. Have been in remission ever since going on two years. I still take one every now and then if I feel the slightest symptom. I guess it's a great detox and anti inflammatory etc. I take other supplements as well but that one did the trick!

I just ordered some Qing Dai too!! I ordered it from atlanta acupuncture I think its in powder form. Where do you get yours from? How long did you take it to reach remission? How did you taper off it? Do you take any other meds now?

My son has ulcerative colitis and recurrent cdiff. This has been serious for 1 1/2 years. He's lost lots of weight, been unable to work, frequent hospitalizations, lots of dr and specialist visits. When we see the specialists, they keep going back to the same tools, over and over again. I took him to an herbalist. She has given us hope. My son was down to 100 lbs, and is 5' 10"....serious problems. He started on slippery elm capsules, 6 capsules twice a day, and in 3 days, we saw improvement in his mood , energy and appetite. The medical team could not slow down his system, aka diarrhea. He has regained 21 pounds in 16 days. My son is still taking the slippery elm, actually 8 caps twice a day. Herbalist says his stools will normalize. Keep the hope! He worked 4 days in a row last week too, which is miraculous as well.

Natures sunshine, 360 mg per capsule. The herbalist says your body will tell you when to reduce the dosage. BM will be formed. He's not there yet but this stuff is helping him greatly. I hope it helps others too!

I'm not sure if we're allowed to post brand names of stuff here? I found great help from Bluebonnet vitamin d3, the one that is sourced from fish oil (not the one from lanolin). I also found benefit from boswellia (not going to post a brand because I tried several and all were good). Finally, I found help from this multivitamin called perque lifeguard (it is expensive but I thought it was well worth the cost).

Oh wow thank you! I will definitely try them out. Do you think any of them brought you closer to remission than another?

@journeytoheal honestly I got the meds from a ayurvedic practitioner in India. I met here due to a mututal friend who was also suffering from UC for 25 years and did the ayurvedic and has been in remission for 10 years. She also did not want to do the biologics like me. Honestly I dont know the exact names of the medications. But once I did ask and i think they get it from the brand called Charak. You can check out their official website. I just started one called alsarex, I also believe she gave me a med called stop-ibs which always helped me the most. There are couple other ones too but I really dont know the names.

I get the Qing Dai from CCHerbal. I just order the capsules and they worked fine, no side effects. I noticed someone else has suggested slippery elm. I recently discovered that for my mother who had been suffering with IBS as well as rectal prolapse... and it seems to be helping her. I'm going to keep slippery elm as part of my arsenal as well. :o) Best to you!
