Yes, I've definitely had mental effects from my disease. Not necessarily memory, attention, or concentration, but more what I would describe as brain fog, irritability, and/or mood disturbances.

However, I also suspect I have small intestinal involvement (not confirmed), so it's hard to say where exactly the brain effects are coming from - small intestine? Large intestine? They say SIBO, which is a small intestinal condition that a lot of UC sufferers probably have, results in brain fog.

Even IBS, which is kind of harmless compared to IBD, causes sufferers anxiety and depression. It's no wonder if IBD does the same.

Personally, I have noticed that sometimes I will eat a certain food and almost immediately will be more functional mentally or less functional mentally (depending on the food). Literally, just from a single bite. It's kind of crazy.

Thanks for response. Some times it's difficult to admit that I have these struggles and I'm not alone. Times where I try to convince myself I'll simply get over this.

For Crohn's but I suspect it could be extrapolated to UC as well.

It's official: Crohn's disease makes you stupid

Make sure it's not an anemia or other deficiency.
