Hi, Champ! I was actually thinking of you and Songlady today, also Valli, and hope you're enjoying the holiday. Too bad the USA & other countries still can't get rid of the blasted COVID-19: stay safe, everybody!!!!! Today I heard on the news that a new coronavirus "cluster" recently grew in NJ, traced to residents who just travelled to/from current hotspots in Arizona or Florida, yuck! / Old Hat (39 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

My residential construction buisness is booming here on Long Island NY. We don’t want any visitors from down south/south west coming up here. We(and me)went thru enough here in NY during the worst Corona days. Hope to God the worst days are behind us. Things aren’t 100% back to normal here in NY. Car traffic is a good gauge and it’s still not traffic jambs at rush hour so will take it while it’s there. Happy 4th and be well

No. I’m 20 miles from Manhattan. But I did go out to restaurant last weekend. Nice place but was empty. People still concerned about Corona

Hey champ! Glad you’re doing well! I’m curious if you feel / or have been told if you’re “immune” now to Covid?

Haven’t been told- but none of my crew had it nor did I give it to them and my Mom was dieing and I would of killed her if I was contagious. Board of health where I live called me to tell me I wasn’t contagious back when I was in hospital

I'm glad you can do that but I can't. I have so many additional things to do and I'm in pain every day. I wear diapers I have to listen to my body and take it slower than I normally would otherwise I might end up in the hospital. I can't just ignore everything

Hi Everyone -
Sorry to be late to the July 4th greetings! Thanks for the thoughts, Champ, OH, and all! My standard answer to "how are you?" is "In all the important ways, I - and my family - are fine." I've been very careful to try not to get exposed to COVID because of my co-morbidities if I did catch it: 2 cancers, overweight. One thing for sure, I am saving money, lol! I didn't realize how much I'd used "retail therapy" in the past. And we've not eaten out yet, though we do get takeout once every week or two.
I still take Immodium and Lomotil: one Immodium in the morning, one Lomotil late afternoon and two at bedtime. I take two tiny doses of metamucil, one in morning and one in afternoon when I remember - all that for comfort and some predictability.
I am working from home, lots of computer and phone stuff. I am helping lead my congregation's services on Zoom; my kids think it's hysterical that I'm on the tech team! Vaca time is starting for me tomorrow, and I am looking forward to some R and R - I've been working almost double hours for months.
Champ, glad business is good! But - you mentioned your mother......?
OH - we have a bumper crop of mosquitos (luckily I don't have a strong reaction to them.) There are only certain times of day I'll go into our back yard. and if I do, I am watching for mosquitos more than I'm checking out the garden! Ho well.....
I am grateful the COVID issue is at a lull here in the NE US right now, and I feel for those places at a peak. I've been making masks for everyone in the extended family (3 layers with slot for filter.) Stay well, everyone.

Song good to hear from you. Still crazy with all the Corona talk here even though NY has stabilized Hopefully we don’t return to what we went thru in April. Hope our south/southwest neighbors stay down there. My mom died June 11th on her 89th B-Day. No long suffering thank God for her. Work is extremely busy so that’s great. Keeps us all feeling good if we are working. My stool is what it is. Loose. I have lomitil and Imodium but I let intestines do there thing. All good here. Hope you stay healthy Be well

Hi All, It's been a bit since I checked in but decided to check in today and saw this post. I'm doing as well as I could have hoped. It is hard to believe I'm getting close to two years from my takedown. I'm happy to say I've resumed pretty much my pre UC life. I'm averaging about 5-6 BM's a day. I can eat most anything but, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to salad / raw veggies. I also try to avoid spicy stuff and popcorn. Life does does take a little more planning, especially doing any sort of adventure. I bought a portable toilet and tent for when I go camping, etc. It has has worked out great. My life isn't easy by any means, but I do feel truly blessed. I'm much better than when I was suffering with UC. I'm doing well, I hope you are all too!

Hi Run. Happy your doing well. Living life with anxiety free moments/days is a delight. My life now I cant compare with pre surgery life. Planning where I stop to use bathroom is long gone. I’m free at last. Thank God I’m free at last(MLK said it first)

Hey Run, Champ!
Champ, I am so sorry about your mom. She fought the good fight, and her legacy lives on in you, her family. From things you'd posted I had the impression she had a strong will, took no nonsense, was fiercely devoted to her family, and had a sense of humor. You said you were glad she didn't have to suffer longer - and I felt the same about my mom, 1 1/2 years earlier. May they rest in peace.

As I approach my 2 year take-down anniversary (8/9) I have to say, I feel well! For me, my food limitations are mostly habit, after 35 years of UC. When I can get past my head, I can eat mostly anything. If it's salad/fruit/raw stuff, I just chew the heck out of, and also know I'll be in the bathroom more. Popcorn: I can eat "some" but not a huge amount - too uncomfortable. But I keep reminding myself that unlike with UC, a day or two of more bathroom trips doesn't mean the beginning of a flare, it just reflects what I ate.
Sometimes, if something causes me excess gas or butt burn, I'll find that if I eat the same thing but less, or with a different combination of foods, it's fine. (shrug)
I have Beano nearby and pop a few if I'm eating anything vaguely gassy. It really helps me.
The challenge these days is staying cool. We have a big, older house. A/C window unit in the bedroom. We try to get all the physical jobs out of the way before the heat gets too bad. Champ, how can you and your guys work in this?? Be careful!

Champ, I was also sorry to read that your mom died in June. From what you posted in the past, she had a feisty spirit and cared about your well-being. So please remember that in case you start neglecting your health by working too hard or w/o enough rest, which I hope won't happen. It's great news that you managed to overcome the post-takedown hassles + COVID-19 to boot, also that you keep us updated. *** Songlady, so glad that you're finally getting some R & R, which you surely need and deserve! Appreciate your take on the eastern CT mosquito situation; after reading what our So CAL members posted about their current problems with aedes aegyptia species year-round, I feel somewhat safer here as long as our winters stay cold enough to zap flying insects. (Fingers crossed!) *** Stay safe, everybody-- this blasted pandemic is no joke. / Old Hat (39 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Thanks Song and Old Hat for kind words of my Mom. I have mentioned my Dad and younger brother dieing 16 hours apart back in 83. So Mom had her share of ups and downs but she always pulled thru no mater the circumstance. I’m fine health wise. My crew is great with this hot weather. We took off the last 2 Monday when the heat index was over 100. I don’t gamble with peoples lives or my own. So all good here on Long Island. Hope Corona stays far away from NY. God bless u all. Be well

It's good to be in touch!
OH, we are about to head to northern New England for a week on a secluded lake.... and now we're hoping this hurricane doesn't mess us up! Bug spray is packed. And sunscreen! And disinfectants.

Champ, sorry for the missed time due to the heat. Crazy.

Stay safe, everyone!

Hi guys I hope everyone is doing well. Sending virtual hugs to everyone
My takedown anniversary is coming up next week... I feel like it was a lifetime ago.

Steve I am so sorry about your mom, it’s never easy sad I know it was a long battle but on the positive spin she knew you were health again and that had to bring her great comfort.
Song happy to hear you are doing well and avoiding COVID .

As for me nothing ever changes sad wish I could say all is well ... sorry I do take that back I may have 1-2 good days a week so I cherish those .
It’s the same issues gas pain, running to the bathroom and still about 10-15 trips a day .The bathroom trips never settle down just the gas comes and goes during the week.

I started taking Cholestyramine even know I have absolutely no issues with my cholesterol it may help the diarrhea etc... It works by attaching and binding itself to bile acids within the digestive tract . At this point it’s worth a try , plus a new gas pill Prevacid and because my hemorrhoids are so bad I just started Venixxa .
Right now the hemorrhoids are what keeps me up at night , my doctor said they are Thrombosed and right now no doctor will do surgery for them .

Other then that life is great . I just went back to work last week due to COVID i stopped working in March . I was very fortunate I could take the time off without losing my house .
Here in Ontario our numbers are low due to the fact mostly everything was closed and people started to work from home.
We just opened up a few weeks ago .
Praying it stays like this and we get no second wave.

I hope everyone is enjoying the summer weather
Stay safe

Hey Valli great to hear from you and Song. Aug 21 is my take down surgery anniversary. Seems like more then 2 years. Crazy how each of our bodies respond to the surgeries. You are definetly a tough cookie. You are a power of example to me and others. My Mom didn’t suffer long. She went into in home hospice care Feb 24 and died on her B-Day June 11. Most of those days spent in bed even though she wanted to get up sometimes which wasn’t possible. The last week she lost her voice which RN said was part of Dementia. We were able to have a morning 2 hour wake. She had 1st full funeral mass at our church which was nice And burial was good. So overall all went well. As far as Corona here in New York we seem to be doing ok. Everyone has mostly respected what to do here. Everyone wears mask still which should help keep virus #s down. Valli I found a GF on a dating website(like u finding your BF) She is a nurse practitioner so she understands my Colon surgery, kidney stone issue,Corona I had etc etc etc. Been going out 2 months and all is good. My BMs really depend on how much I eat. I don’t eat heavy during day so that keeps BMs down. All is good here. Hope you guys stay healthy. God bless. Be well

Happy to hear your mom didn’t suffer 🙏.
And awesome news about the new GF and a nurse that’s helpful . Love my other half but if a Mr Doctor gastro came along my other half would be tossed to the curb ... a girl has to do what a girl has to do lol lol . Nah my other half has so much patience for all my medical issues it’s a blessing.

I rarely eat 3TC and yet I am a pooping machine, even coffee in the morning I poop out yellow to brown liquid till mid afternoon plus yellow bile. My breakfast every morning is a cup of coffee and a plain rice cake or maybe even two with either peanut butter , jam or hummus and half a Asian pear no skin then lunch I tend to skip most days . Dinner is early around 4:30-5:00 maybe BBQ chicken , rice and only cooked vegetables or instead of the rice baked potatoe. I can do pasta but only if I hold 90% of the red sauce items like Shepard’s pie I can do etc..,, I have given up things like heavy meats , cabbage rolls ( my fav ) Indian food my fav or anything deep fried I can tolerate a small salad but never two days in a row definitely learned that the hard way. Later on in the evening I may have a snack maybe rice crackers or yogurt mixed in with a wee bit cereal then as a treat a cup of apple juice otherwise it’s a herbal tea with a splash of honey.
That’s my norm for the week sometimes it may vary but everything is plain . I had a handful of peanuts twice in the last year and chewed like there was no tomorrow and I still ended up in pain . I don’t eat sweets and maybe once a month I will have a small ice cream cone.
I love food but I now associate it with pain
so it’s not worth the hassle. MyBF gets mad all the time he says I eat like a bird yet I tell him I crap like a P..!!! I Truly don’t understand my digestive track praying the new meds help .
Has anyone else experienced any of these lovely issues ?
