I may have floated this idea before but I'm wondering has anyone noticed Imuran affecting their healing not from wounds or cuts but from soft tissue injuries.

I play a lot of sport and lately I've noticed that slight strains and sprains are taking close to a year or more to heal. I would not call these joint issues as they very much seem to be soft tissue in nature. I'm aware that UC can give rise to arthalgias, etc but I'm in a deep remission for 7 years and have no signs of active disease in bloods or scopes or swelling and joint issues per say.

It just seems to me that Imuran greatly slows down my tendons and ligament healing when I pick up a slight injury from sport.

Thanks.

Hi damo123,

I'm fairly active and I've never noticed that, tho I don't recall any serious sprain. I've had some nagging injuries but never linked the two. Nothing I've done has taken close to a year to heal, tho I'm sure it can have an affect.
My biggest unwanted side effect seems to be different skin issues that are irritating and self concious.
I'm only taking 50mg, possibly a higher dose would cause more issues like that?
Side Note, at hockey last year I got hit with a puck where there is no padding, I bruised like I've never seen before. Almost went to check for blood clots (which I should have). I did think then that possibly there was a reason this was more severe than normal. It was bad enough I missed a couple of weeks.
I also cracked my ribs and bruised my sternum last summer and only took 3-4 weeks to heal.
Might be something for you to keep an eye on and discuss with your GI or Family Dr. if it's affecting your livelihood, or in case they are not linked and there's another reason.
Injured tendons and ligaments can be really hard to manage even without imuran if you're not doing the right things for them. Good luck.
