I recently had a scope and was diagnosed with left-sided colitis in early August. I was previously diagnosed with proctitis which I had for about 10 years. Had been on enemas but no oral meds. Interestingly, the GI said that the tissue around my rectum looks practically normal. So, I guess the enema worked but now my disease has progressed. I have been on Apriso (prescribed after my recent scope) and still taking the Rowasa daily. My GI initially said just take Apriso but when I asked about the enema, he said I could take if I want to make sure the colon is fully covered. So far, things have been improving for me. No blood, urgency or mucus. I go about 1-2 x per day. I am on a paleo diet mostly but have been doing this for years with no issues with weight. What I have noticed is that when I go, the enema covers most of the bowels I pass. Is that normal? When I was taking it by itself, I noticed that less and the bowels were pretty clean. Should I take the enema nightly? I am taking the pills every morning and started taking the enema in the morning too, which worked better for my schedule. Don’t know if that makes a difference but when I was taking it at night, it was doing the same thing. Thanks.
