So i was scheduled for a colonoscopy 2 weeks back and was advised to go for the 2-day Suprep (night and the morning of the procedure day). But at night, it gave me extreme nausea and i started to throw up. I was not able to complete the prep because of which i cancelled the procedure. There was not much issues last year when i did the same prep. Maybe the Imuran(Azathioprine) reduced my nausea thresholds which i started taking around then.

Anyway, after seeing many threads on the Miralax prep, i spoke with my doctor's office asking for alternatives and they said they were fine with it. They said they will send the instructions but they didn't yet(I have called their office about that). Also i noticed that they sent a prescription to the pharmacy only for Miralax and not the Dulcolax. I thought the prep involved both Miralax and Dulcolax. Now I am confused what i should do? Does the prep work without Dulcolax? I do have Dulcolax with me that i have used before for constipation.

Procedure is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Which one if more recommended..Miralax+Dulcolax or just Miralax(Does it even work?). Is there anyone who prepped just using Miralax?

Thanks

Miralax is purchased over-the-counter, no Rx needed for that. My gastroenterologist, who subspecializes in IBD treatment, recommends mixing 8 oz. of it with 64 oz. clear liquid. Some IBDers use clear Gatorade; I use clear Pedialyte. (A clear liquid that replaces needed electrolytes lost during purges) If you have a long colon, your doctor may want you to use up to a gallon of liquid, or to take Dulcolax in addition. So you should contact doctor's office to be sure! The prep goes better if one eats lightly a day beforehand, and one should also avoid eating corn, nuts, & seeds the week prior to scope. Wishing you good luck with the prep! Miralax is less likely to cause nausea, but don't chug it-- drink the mixture methodically once you start, about every 15 minutes 'til you're done, and start by 2 PM. (To avoid running to john overnight.) / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I mix with white grape juice. I also eat very light two weeks prior to the procedure.

I had to take Dulcolax once in combination with Citro Mag, and I think the Dulcolax made me throw up more than any other prep did, so you may want to proceed carefully with it if you are prone to nausea from prep.

Thanks a lot for the information folks smile . My doc called me today and asked me to take 4 dulcolax tablets the day before the procedure in addition to miralax. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Good luck! The requirement for successful c-scope prep is that what you finally eliminate runs clear-colored. If that happens before you drink all the Miralax solution, then you can stop & just drink some plain water at least hourly to stay hydrated. If your scope gets scheduled for late AM or midday, the doc might even let you drink another type of clear liquid around 7-8 AM, about 8 oz. max. Then you would absolutely have to fast afterward. / Old Hat

I’m actually prepping right now and am using this prep. I’ve used it before as well. You mix the 8.3oz bottle of Miralax with 64oz of clear liquid. They always recommend using Gatorade.

For my prep, I took 2 dulcolax tabs at 4pm, then started drinking half of the prep (32oz) at 6pm and spaced it so I was done drinking it around 8pm. I have to wake up at 4am to drink the second half of the liquid so I can be done with it by 6am since my check-in time for my procedure is at 9.
