I am scheduled for a colonoscopy at 8 am tomorrow. The prep had me on a clear liquid diet after 8 am yesterday and all today. I had toast with PB and a banana yesterday at 7 am and nothing solid since other than some jello. I have been drinking home made beef bone broth ( I did not skim off the fat), apple juice, water and coffee. I did use @ 1 tbsp almond creamer in my coffee early this morning but black since 8 am.

I took a ducolax at 1:30 pm and another at 2:30 pm. Drank 32 oz gatorade with half a bottle miralax from 4pm-5:pm. ( Instructions said 8 oz ever 30 min) and had one small BM since. That's it. It's now 8 PM. I am supposed to drink the other 32 oz/miralax 4 hours before heading in. Should I drink it sooner? I don't want to get there and be sent home!

Sorry for the late reply. I would do it all tonight.
Please update us on your scope.

Hope the go goes well.

Oh no, you sound like me! I would drink the second batch earlier to give it more time to work. Good luck!

Yep, it seems that today's gastros are messing c-scopees up by telling them to drink half of prep early in the day of procedure. I think their idea is to prevent the patient from experiencing the "emptied-out" feeling in gut overnight, that comes when one finishes all the prep the day & evening before procedure. But that's a poor trade-off! It can lead to more anxiety + delayed cleansing of colon. Thanks to forum members I found out a good while back that it's preferable to start prep earlier in order to finish earlier and not have to worry once the runs look clear. / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission)

When I got there for the scope I still wasn't cleared out. They gave me the choice to either reschedule or do an enema. I did the enema but he said it wasn't clear enough. He was able to do the scope and removed 4 polyps but the report said he had to do a lot of flushing/suctioning and wants tor redo it in 3 years because the cleanout was only fair. I'm upset it didn't work!

At least it's now behind you-- so just assume that you'll know better what to do about the prep next time. We all live & learn from our UC experiences, good or bad. Since you did have 4 polyps it doesn't seem unreasonable that your doc wants to schedule another c-scope in 3 yrs. Wait for the written lab reports, though, to see what the pathologist advises. / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I'm glad they at least proceeded with the scope. I was once sent home and had to go through all the prep again in a month or so. I would recommend trying a different prep next time, or else, as bad as this sounds, do three rounds of prep instead of two. That's what I had to do last time. But it worked at least.

I will definitely do things differently next time! I plan to start the prep earlier for sure and will probably do extra of the miralax.

Did your doc's office give you a list of foods to avoid for a week prior to scope? If not, that type of info might help you prep with less hassle next time. The one item I always remember from such a list is corn. / Old Hat

Yes, they did give me a list and I thought I followed it, but in retrospect, I think the bone broth was not clear enough. It was a dark broth and was probably not good for before. That's definitely one of the things I will do differently next time!

I went beyond their list, I ate a completely low fibre diet the week before. The last day before going on clear liquids I ate semi-liquid foods, like cream soup. And then this last time my GI had me on clear liquids for two days prior to the clean out rather than one. Oh and my husband made me a big batch of turkey broth but I realized it had too much fat it in (which made it mighty yummy) but did not qualify as "consomme" which is a clear liquid so I had to strain out the fat (a real pain of an operation, so next time I need him to make it less fatty to begin with).

Good it's done.

When do you get the results of the biopsies and polyps? Depending on those results, the next scope might be sooner.

Is there a reason you didn't do the gallon prep?

The last time I did the gallon prep it made me sick and I started vomitting.
