Do probiotics help UC? I have some probiotics gummies with bacillus coagulans, do you think they would be likely to help with UC to any extent?

some do some don't - trial and error for sure - it's so hard to know if they are working or not and depending on your bank account, it can get spendy to experiment -

The ones in my signature are worthy to me.

If you are in the US, I suggest one to start with...Primadophilus Reuteri...capsules, not pearls. I took that for many, many years until it was discontinued in Canada.

Consider VSL#3. Refrigerated probiotics pack a much bigger punch, and while more expensive, these are likely more beneficial. VSL#3 has some studies inducing remission in UC, but I don’t know how high quality that data is. It can cause loose stools when you start because you’ve got a new micro biome brewing, so start slow.

Also note that some probiotics cause irritating gas issues.

I wonder if switching brands occasionally is beneficial, if just to get exposure to varying formulas.

Take them at bedtime on a mostly empty stomach when the gut is more quiet...see if that helps.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Have been taking it in the AM.

They’re expensive but Visbiome are FDA approved and been exceptional to me.

Hi all,

I take Visbiome as well. Prior to visbiome I took VSL 3 (the same active ingredients). The price is the main con. I've been taking them for 3.5 years now so I honestly cannot say how much they are helping given that I have not tried going without them.

I tried to use visbiome but it gave me acid reflux. Now I have a jpouch and I take a 10 strain probiotics from a wholesaler. I must take it 4 times a day. If I go down to 3 I get sick.

Just an FYI here, but VSL#3 maker sold their product and changed it dramatically to where some say is now ineffective for some purposes. Much info on that can be found via Google, it was a few yrs ago. I found it ineffective and quit.
There are some great coupons out there if someone were interested. I think that GoodRX was what I used.

I tried all those pills for a few weeks each and they did nothing for me. All these big numbers on the front saying 5 Million organisms or whatever mean nothing. Then I discovered KEFIR MILK (has 50 to 200 times the probiotics then those pills). It is gods elixir. Drink 2 cups of that per day for a week and I would be shocked if you didn't see major improvements. Google the health benefits of kefir milk also.

The taste of it was a little much for me so I blend it with a frozen banana and mango or strawberries and it tastes like ice cream.

2 cups per day for 1 week. Don't skip a day, don't do 1 cup, don't mix it with other probiotic pills. You may want to try every brand of kefir also to see which one performs the best for you.
