Hey guys, just interested to see if anyone is on Biologics (infliximab) and has it been a game changer for you ? I’m currently nearly 10 months remission which is the longest remission period for me in about 8 years. Pred always worked in getting me out of flares, but a flare would creep its way back usually 3/4 months later, resulting in me taking Pred far to much in a yearly period.

Eventually my doctor made the decision that as a young male of 35, I couldn’t keep taking this amount as it could eventually take its toll when I’m older, so made the decision to put me on Biologics infusions. I’m currently having my infusions now every 2.5 months and what a game changer for me. My health is now back to what it was.

I got married In italy a few weeks ago, so had a complete flare free wedding which was fantastic. I’m back to the gym 4 times a week keeping my fitness up. I was diagnosed when I was 25 and had an incredibly bad flare which hospitalised me for 2 weeks. I come out like a skeleton, but eventually managed to combat it through Pred and a Cyclosporine as my flare was that severe. I was in remission for roughly 3/4 years which was fantastic.

After that though as explained, I was constantly in and out of flares every 3/4 months with no real rest bite. I had an extremely bad C-Diff infection last year which hospitalised me again for 2 weeks. Horrendous and even worse than my original hospital UC flare. Finally got rid of C-Diff with the special meds for the disease. But I then got another UC flare 3 months later. That’s when I went on the Biologics. This infliximab seems to have been a game changer for me and touch wood, it’s keeping me healthy long term. Anyone else in the same boat ?

Entyvio was my game changer. I was diagnosed at older age and spent a year being sick and weak and lost 20 lbs putting me under 100 lbs and mostly on prednisone. My doctor put me on entyvio and now after 3 years of remission I am living a normal life again. I resisted biologics and did not want to have to be on one but it was a life changer for me and I’m so happy I did it.

Flowers , you sound exactly like me according to your bio. Pred the only thing combatting your flares, but getting flares to regular, until you went on Biologics.

Glad you found a solution and are feeling a lot better.

Remicade has been my total game changer, 8 years on it and the majority within a remission. We had a few posters with 10+ years remission on remicade, they were in the initial clinical trials in 1999 and still on it last I knew.

Hope your remission lasts long, and your wedding is fantastic.

It was a big game changer for me too. After having my daughter I went into this huge flare and got steroid dependent. I started Remicade and it put me in remission for 7 years! I hope you get that too! Unfortunately it stopped working for me this year. I’m starting a new med in a few days. Hopefully this will put me back in remission.

I just got out of my 2nd week-long hospital stay in as many weeks (October surprise for real!). I had a blood vessel come thru an ulcer in the colon and had 3 hemorrhages resulting in blood transfusions, emergency Remicade and general despair. They did find the little jerk of a blood vessel and neutralized it. Now, I am home again (on pred and doing a taper) and continuing with the Remicade (next infusion Tuesday, along with iron). I haven't felt this well in two years (other than weak and fatigued) and I know the pred is helping, but I think the Remicade is helping more. Pred never puts gets me out of a flare, just sort of keeps things status quo. I am hopeful and that's good. The doc did say that if this doesn't work, surgery is on the table. I am okay with it, if need be. I just want to feel like myself again.

I'm sure you feel a lot better heading into a new marriage with much better health.
I started Entyvio a about 3 months ago, and it has put me into a really solid remission.
Sometimes I think many of us used more steroids than we should have in an effort to avoid biologics.
