51 yo fem, dx 16 years ago, well controlled for most part -------worst flare ever, still fighting.

Was improving, FINALLY, started Humira, and on 40 mg pred and steroid enemas, okayed by doc to start tapering the pred. (I am 5'00 and now HUGE) Got down to 25 and got whacked. Pay attention to your body, folks, I knew that this was too fast and I saw / denied my symptoms. (I ate something weird, I had a glass of wine.....)

It has taken me 2 weeks back up to 40 to even leave the house before noon. I would be in the hospital on IV methyl-pred but my GI is WAAAAAAAAAAY too worried about Covid - we are peaking again here in Illinois. It's still in the cards depending how the next 4 days or so go. Please wish me luck and include me in your prayers.

If anyone wants to provide feedback re: how fast the Humira will work, in a major flare, still on Lialda and 40 mg pred, I would appreciate it. It's so random. Doc said at least 4 weeks staying on everything. Next dose of Humira Nov 4. Last 2 days were really good! Today sucked. For no reason.

Best to all - and stay safe.

P

Hang in there everyone!

Sorry to hear you're flaring.

Humira usually starts showing signs of improvement in 6 weeks or less. Some show improvement in 2-3 (or so) weeks, sometimes it's 6-8 weeks. Varies wildly.

Prednisone and humira don't directly heal you, rather they just stop the immune system's attack. Once that attack stops, your body must then begin to heal itself. The more severe and extensive the Inflammation is, the longer it takes to feel better.

You can ask your gasteroenterologist if it makes sense to do more frequent humira doses for a faster and stronger response. Some do weekly humira shots, as an example.

Thanks iPoop, as always. Consulting again today, GI said weekly Humira (again next shot nov 4) til I'm really controlled, but got a call from the "preferred pharmacy" saying every other week order. Need to resolve that. Any other thoughts from members still welcome.

Stay safe -

Sorry for the delay, yes, mine was 5 every TWO weeks, to 25, then 5 /week.

Still in the woods here so probably a couple of days in hospital for IV 'roids. Was good for several days then we had a huge Sunday brunch, football, etc. Diet got me again so I'm clearly still on the edge. Bummed! Pun intended.
