I read that there is another new strain in South Africa that affects younger people more. The new strain in the UK is more contagious. Let's hope that those 2 mutations don't join together. Unknown how the vaccines affect the mutations. Current theory is that they will be as effective against them because of how they work.

Stay safe everyone. Likely at least the next 6-9 months are gonna pretty rough until enough people can get the vaccines and we will be able to see that they work. Still such a long time but we are about halfway through this now assuming that the vaccines will work.

Actually this thread is cheering me up. It gives us a chance to vent our anxieties over COVID & frustrations with egomaniac politicians plus herd stupidity. Onward and (hopefully) upward ... / Old Hat

There is no substitute for getting your blood levels of vit D measured. Vitamin D3 is the natural version. We UCers are likely to be deficient since we may have problems with absorption. (Actually I think most people are deficient).

Optimal values are between 40 and 60 ng/ml. Measurements near 100 are technically safe but that leaves little margin for error since vitamin D can be overdosed. I need to take about 5,000 IU each day to maintain blood levels within the optimum range.

Why the news media isn't talking about this more and why the health authorities aren't calling for mass vitamin D supplementation worldwide is beyond me.

It's not just vitamin D. The NIH seems to be pushing vaccines and ignoring everything else. This doctor at a Senate hearing is passionately pleading congress to force the NIH to look at his data.

There's absolutely no proof Vitamin D can prevent, or treat, Covid-19. Practically every one in the north in winter is low in Vitamin D and some groups are likely to be more deficient in it than others - the same groups that tend towards a more severe course of Covid, eg male, obese, old, multiple health conditions, black and Asian ethnicity. Pick any disease process and it's likely you'll find high rates of Vitamin D deficiency amongst the people who have it. But that doesn't mean Vitamin D deficiency causes cancer, alzheimers, chronic kidney disease, etc. If vitamin D really was the miracle vitamin that some people treat it as, we'd have solved most diseases already!

That said, it's a good idea to take a vitamin D supplement and I recommend it. But it won't protect you from getting Covid. It may lessen the severity of your symptoms but there's no proof of that, at least not yet.

Dr. Fauci is a humanitarian! He stated publically that his job is to save lives, not to worry about the stock market. The people who keep trying to put him down are the ones who engage in politics here and should keep their reprehensible self-righteous attitudes to themselves. / Old Hat

He is one voice in regards to the pandemic, but I certainly would never put him on a pedestal. Honestly i lost respect for him when he said tinder-hookups were doable during a pandemic.

And if political posts are now allowed, I would be more than happy to unload on the incoming administration smile

Dr. Fauci has served at NIH during Republican Party presidencies and Democratic Party presidencies. He doesn't play politics, and he has definitely shown courage and restraint when obliged in his position to stand up to corrupt egomaniacal bullies who have no appreciation for the scientific method. People who admire bullies (and authoritarian govt) will never concede that. / Old Hat

I agree with OH. I was a counselor at and HIV testing site in the 1980s and came to respect Dr Fauci then. I still do!

I am torn about Fauci. He lied to us about face masks in the beginning and then later admitted that he lied. In an interview he also admitted that he fudged estimated vaccine numbers needed to achieve herd immunity. This pattern and type of behavior makes me wonder what else he will fib about. It makes me think that he will say whatever is needed to ensure that others follow his prescribed recommendations.
I am not questioning his knowledge or his ability/willingness to get along with others. I question his character, his ethics and his willingness to mislead. I am very disappointed in him - especially since I had previously admired him. We need all doctors to give us the truth up front and let us make our own decisions.

Perhaps it's good not to put any doctor on a pedestal.....
I listen to what the experts say and follow their advice but I don't particularly hold admiration for them as people.
Maybe because I work in science and have met some professors with very inflated egos (and they usually have a team of underlings doing the hard work), it always makes me cautious.

You are not alone. Some might say that Anthony Fauci, Bill Gates, and company are making perfect sense when you realize they are heavily invested in vaccines. Below is a video explaining why the PCR test, pushed by Fauci, is completely unreliable.

(Note that Kary Mullis who received the Noble Prize for inventing the PCR test says the PCR is unreliable as a diagnostic tool and he does not have a high opinion of Fauci).

Derrick Boze!!! The whack job who claimed 5G was causing covid, but later apologised.

There's no level IAC won't stoop to, in order to spread conspiracy crap.

Ambling,
I know that there are times that we might disagree with others, their information sources, their suggestions... There are polite factual ways to disagree with someone. Your tone, snarky comments and name calling towards IAC is unacceptable and borders on bullying. Everyone has the right to their opinion and to express their opinion-even when we might not agree with it. This type of behavior discourages others from sharing because they fear that you will go after them in a negative fashion. It makes people just reading thru the forum not want to participate. The number of people sharing and responding to this forum has dropped considerably in the last year. We can't afford to lose more people. Please stop it.
You are better than that.

Let's get back on track---Can people post if they took the vaccine and how they responded? Since there isn't yet data on people with autoimmune illnesses I'm curious how people with IBD are doing with this vaccine.

I think you meant Nobel Prize, not Noble Prize.

Let's not forget that Kary Mullis also made his own LSD and didn't have a high opinion of Fauci at least in part BECAUSE MULLIS DENIED HIV CAUSES AIDS.

That's all very nice Clo.
But we have a recidivist poster for whom no amount of correction ever alters their behavior.

Posting utter garbage dredged up from the dark rabbit holes of the internet is a crime against the good people here who are battling a serious illness - who need decent information.

The fact that Kary Mullis died before the first ever case of covid was ever reported, is another example of the garbage that is dredged up here, and posted in the great conspiracy theory crusade that IAC leads.

It is an affront and a disgrace and needs to be called out for what it us. Denigrating important people, abusing the truth, these are things not to be taken lightly, and casually passed off as 'opinions'!

The video makes a good case that the PCR test has questionable reliability. You don't think that is “decent information”?

Claiming that someone who died before covid started, somehow said PCR was not reliable for covid - neither credible, nor useful.

Ambling,
I enjoy hearing others opinions and looking at their news sources--even when I totally disagree with what they may be saying. It broadens my mind. Free speech, civil discourse and debate are so very important. When someone verbally attacks others it makes them sound divisive and entrenched in their own opinions. We must all strive for open discourse. And bullying is never okay. Again, you are better than this.

And 4 of my friends have had the vaccination. They are in the medical field. They complained of some fatigue, a sore arm, and headaches. One complained of an elevated heartbeat but she believes it was a panic attack. No severe reactions.

My GI, CRS and infectious disease doctors have all taken the shot and recommend that Crohns patients-even those on Remicade-take it.

My family has lost 2 members to this wretched disease. They were elderly and stayed at home. We still are not sure when or where they could have caught it. So to all of you out there....please be careful, wear a mask and sanitize frequently.
