Claiming that someone who died before covid started, somehow said PCR was not reliable for covid - neither credible, nor useful

You are mistaken. Nobody is saying that Dr. Kary Mullis was talking about the Covid-19 virus. Mullis died in August, 2019. The video is saying it was The University of Oxford Center for Evidence Based Medicine and The University of the West of England that found the PCR test can produce false positives.

However, at approximately the 12 minute mark, this video quotes Dr. Kary Mullis in 1993 as saying that the PCR was being improperly used by researchers to estimate free viral mRNAs.

Saying that : " the PCR test can produce false positives", does not mean it is inaccurate or unusable! It has to be used correctly of course.

Saying that Mullis said, back in 1993 : " the PCR was being improperly used by researchers to estimate free viral mRNAs", has nothing at all to do with its use for covid 19 in 2020. Mullis was talking about PCR use within the context of testing viral load (the amount of virus present) in people with HIV

That is why it is nonsense.

Iamcurious’s posts aren’t nonsense at all but what many here might find to be very informative.

Some people love conspiracy theories. They want to believe that Bill Gates, Dr Fauci and the 'government' have created the pandemic to profit from it. They want to believe the testing is all bogus, designed to make the 'fake' pandemic seem real.

Very true. I have elderly family members who want to justify going out, having dinner parties and traveling so they believe that the covid numbers are fake and that hospitals get a ton of money by stating that someone "died from covid" as opposed to other causes. They even went to a casino this weekend...yikes. No matter what I say and what factual information I provide, they are literally resistant to facts. I am not referring to anyone on this forum btw.

5th friend had covid shot this afternoon. She said her arm is very achy, she has pretty bad fatigue and she has a headache worse than when her migraine occurs. She had 2 natural.childbirths and described that pain as minimal...so for her to say this is "sorta rough" concerns me. She is not concerned though. She said 24 to 48 hours of feeling like this is worth taking the shot.

If you react like this to vaccination shot 1 will shot 2 be worse? Ill let you know what she says then...

Anyone read anything about people taking the shot with Crohns, asthma, allergies (medications, shellfish and seasonal plants) plus kidney issues? I will still take it when it becomes available...just want to be prepared...

Oh and on those people that don't think Covid is real....lets put them in the hospital to help out those people that don't really have anything wrong with them....that are dying gasping for air. Most horrible thing to watch anyone go thru!!!

Mask up, stay at home and sanitize like crazy.

RE shellfish allergies & COVID vaccines: a senior male MD in Boston area started lapsing toward anaphylaxis right after he got the Moderna vaccine shot #1 late last week. Luckily he was able to inject his own epi-pen before rushing to emergency room, but he still spent a few hours there getting checked/monitored for BP fluctuations, weakness, etc. *** RE Pfizer COVID vaccine: there have been about 6 reports of Bell's Palsy turning up in UK following injections of #1 vaccine shot there. I find that scary because a usually very healthy & energetic 55-60 yr-old female neighbor of mine suddenly got Bell's in May 2019, and it took her months to get rid of the facial paralysis that affected one eye + her mouth! Yikes! (And her hubby is a medical researcher so she had prompt DX & follow-ups.) So at this point, I'd rather continue social-distancing than rush for these vaccines until more results on their use becomes available. / Old Hat

These things are scary indeed.
However, the incidence of Bell's palsy in the trials was still lower than the normal incidence in the general population.
It's important not to panic and draw unfounded conclusions.

Covid Mortality Risk by Age:
0-24:   1 in 250,000
25-44: 1 in 16,666
45-65: 1 in 2,500
65+:    1 in 500

Covid-19 is a very serious disease but mostly for the elderly and probably also for some of the immune compromised on this forum. That is why it is so important to protect the elderly in nursing homes and elderly care facilities.

But this is an EXPERIMENTAL vaccine so maybe it wouldn't hurt if the young and healthy, who are at minuscule risk of becoming ill, held off from getting vaccinated right away.

BTW study after study has shown that asymptomatic carriers, (those who the PCR indicates are infected but show no symptoms), do not transmit the virus to others. In fact there has yet to be found a single instance of a youngster spreading the covid virus to an adult. Ironically there are some indications that those who are vaccinated can still spread the virus to others.

Young people don't spread the illness??? And only older people are really at risk??

Wow.

Someone else take this one sad

IAC,
I respectfully disagree with you. I do not have the articles available at this time...however I have read numereous articles that indicate just the opposite.
Ahhh...someone else posted them..Thanks...

Additionally, not only has my family lost 2 elderly parents...there was also a young man very close to our family that died earlier this year from covid19. It shocked us because people were saying that just didn't happen. If we had only known....

A study of almost 10 million people in Wuhan, China, found that asymptomatic spread of COVID-19 did not occur. This was published in the well regarded Science publication, Nature, and perhaps may help undermine the need for lockdowns, which are built on the premise of the virus is unwittingly spread by infectious, asymptomatic people.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-020-19802-w
The citywide nucleic acid screening of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Wuhan recruited nearly 10 million people, and found no newly confirmed cases with COVID-19. The detection rate of asymptomatic positive cases was very low, and there was no evidence of transmission from asymptomatic positive persons to traced close contacts.

I don't trust any info from China on this virus. China says they have only had a total of 95,944 cases and 4782 deaths. Pennsylvania has higher numbers.

As for the other stats ... no one knows who is going to get really sick, have minimal or no symptoms or die. Seems like a big roll of the dice to me. I guess it was for the 41 year old congressman-elect from Louisiana too ... he would have been the 1 of 16,666 I guess.

Re asymptomatic spreaders: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

Anyway I have two female friends my age (late 30s) who got long covid, still having debilitating symptoms after 200 days. One of them was super healthy, used to go running every day, weight lifting, etc etc - spent 6 weeks in bed and at 9 months is only 75% better.

Regarding young people, there was an outbreak at my 10 year old niece's school. She infected her whole family (2 adults 2 kids).

My friend with medical problems just took the vaccine. She said she had intense chills and cold sensations, but it reduced within a few hours. She said it was worth it for a few hours of being uncomfortable.

I had the same symptoms as Jane's friend with the second Shingrix vaccine. Very uncomfortable but easily forgettable.
I would definitely get the vaccine...whatever one and whenever available here.
Yes...I worry regarding side effects, but would still do it.

I am in a workplace where 150 people received the Moderna vaccine 10 days ago. I experienced a sore arm at the injection site the next day. I took a long nap the day of the vaccine as well. To my knowledge nobody in my workplace experienced anything unusual from the vaccine. Sore arm was the normal complaint. Only other side effect for me has been peace of mind.

That's awesome. I'm not expecting to receive a vaccine before April.
