UC diagnosis 30 years ago, primarily extended periods of remission. However, 3 CT scans in last 5 years indicate shrinking spleen. CT scan last week indicates "severely atrophic spleen." Have any longtime UC sufferers experienced spleen issues? I'm experiencing significant pain in upper left abdomen/lower left rib cage in spleen location.

I couldn't find anything on forum search, but found this.
Click on the complete text link.

Curious (if you are OK to share) why you've had 3 CT scans in that period of time...and was the recognition of your spleen condition just noted as an aside?

Hi quincy and thanks for the reply. 3 CT scans in 5 years was requested by Gastro Doc to try to determine upper left abdominal pain. Suspected causes were gallstones, kidney stones, liver issues and Crohn's. Yes, small spleen was mentioned as an aside. However, on most recent CT, "severely atrophic spleen" was noted in the report conclusion.

Some Internet research reveals auto-immune reaction that triggers UC may also be related to auto-immune reaction of the spleen.

Looking for some other UC sufferers who are experiencing/have experienced spleen issues...

I see...hope there are more answers as to why. Have you had blood testing as suggested in the article?
