I am still on Remicade and doing ok but getting a UTI and I’m terrified of antibiotics . I had c diff 5 years ago and also am afraid of flaring. Has anyone treated UTIs naturally? Is macrobid easier on the gut flora?

Drink plain water hourly, at least a cupful. Also, try phasing in some natural cranberry juice (such as Knudsen's Just Cranberry), about a quarter cup 2X daily. Go low on sugary foods, drinks. Also better to avoid spicy foods, alcohol. Get plenty of rest & try to avoid stress. I know that UTI causes worry because ABX meds also wipe me out-- so I try hard to avoid them plus am highly allergic to some, besides. Good luck & take good care of yourself. / Old Hat (40 yrs with left-sided UC)

I tend to react poorly to antibiotics. I took macrobid and had no gi symptoms at all, just a bit of a headache. It was mild compared to others. I had very severe reactions to cipro and even flagyl (non GI though).

If you are seeing blood in your urine, then I wouldn't risk it especially if your immune system is suppressed. If you have to take it, increase probiotics.

I just had one and had no issues taking macrobid. But then I’ve also taken cipro and levaquin with no issues. I’ve tried everything to avoid utis with no luck. When they hit me it’s with a sledgehammer and I’m in such pain I run to the antibiotics. I did avoid one once by drinking lots of cranberry juice but it was only temporary and it still caught me.

I'm pretty limited on antibiotics, typically for UTI my dr gives me Bactrim, plus OTC Floraster. I try to catch them sooner rather than later, not much fun to end up in the hospital with one.

Yes thanks so much! I started on Macrobid today which is low risk for C diff. It’s better than waiting and ending up with kidney infection. I feel better about it now, but what an ordeal having to be immunosuppressed and afraid of antibiotics. Thanks All!
