Hi all,

Week 8 of Humira, improving from AWFUL flare (could not get into doc for two months due to COVID and another month to get approved for Humira, so I was insanely inflamed). Very slow improvement but it does seem to be working, now tapering of pred at 20 mgs.

Have cropped up with wicked sore throat and swollen glands which a) is listed as a 'side effect' and b) could clearly be an opportunistic infection - thrush / strep. Making ENT appointment today.

Your experience with antibiotics (if it is strep) and Humira? Many GI's pull you off the Humira while being treated, many seem to keep you on. My case would be a z pak as I'm allergic to all penicillin family. (if it's thrush, that's just an antifungal treatment so no issue).

Again - I AM going to the doc, just looking for community feedback. Thanks and stay safe!

TP, while on both Remicade & Humira, I was prescribed Zpack & Bactrim & never had a problem & my drs did not take me off of either one. I always took OTC Florastor which my gi always suggested. I too cannot take any of the penicillin family.

Not sure how long of a wait you will have to see an ENT, I would try my GP & not let this get out of hand, especially if it may be strep.

Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Just got in for this afternoon! I think when they hear Humira they work you in - thank goodness.
