Hi all

Wondering if anyone else just has mucus coming out (no stool). I’m yet to get medicated, wondering if am I able to lessen this with diet in the meantime? Or will medication be the only thing that stops this?

Thanks

No...you're flaring. Can you call the GI office and ask for rectal meds?

Yeah, lots of mucous is always a sign of a flare for me, especially when it's coming out alone. I agree with Q around rectal meds and early intervention when symptoms are mild. Diet can work well in combo with the rectal meds (e.g., plant based diet or gluten/dairy free). Keeping a food diary and tailoring diet to you is key.

Mesalamine is the least intense of all the meds we have for UC so if you respond consider yourself lucky and don't get overconfident around not taking meds.

Mucus was for me a sign of lactose intolerance and the first sign of UC. Test results showed that I am borderline lactose intolerant - my family doctor said that I am not, the GI said I am.
This first time I stopped drinking Kefir and the mucus stopped. Not the UC which evolved in time.
Dairy free diet helps.
