I decided to have my j-pouch redone but only if the surgeon I picked will take on my case. I'll have an appointment in February. Wish me luck

I'd definitely try medication before having a redo.

I was on cipro and very sick. But I'm speaking with my GI again on the 25th of January. He already referred me to a surgeon. And she has bad reviews. I don't want to go to her. If I have to go, I want to pick the surgeon myself. If he doesn't take my case I won't do it. My GI is already convinced I need a redo because of the blood supply issue. But I don't trust the surgeon he referred me to.

Also I want to mention when I was on cipro I was on oxycodone every day because the pain was unbearable and I'm not contributing to the opiod crisis that way. I already made up my mind and accepted that my jpouch isn't functioning due to a surgical error and I'm unable to fix it medically however I already left a voice mail to my GI asking again to be sure however he already referred me so I think that answer is a no

That really stinks. It's so much to go though and over an error? I wish you could go see someone at one of the major facilities with the most experience with redos for a consultation. Can you video consult with someone at Cleveland or similar? Can you try a biologic just to see if there's improvement before you go under the knife? I am so sorry. I wanted you to be done with all this nonsense so badly. Xo

Sorry to hear Andrina. You have been through so much with UC. Take your time and find the right center and surgeon. Hang in there and update us.

ya, that really sucks - i would definitely talk to your GI about your concerns re the referral - ask him why he chose that surgeon - does he know her personally ? how many patients has he referred to her ? who would be his next choice ? ask, ask, ask --

good luck -

I would ask him to give you a referral to the doctor of your choice. My PCP, GI, and CRS have all changed their referrals to others when I requested. I just say that I would like to see this person first and they change it. I don't provide a reason...but the 1 time I was asked why I explained I knew of his work thru a prior patient. (Not so...I had just heard horror stories about the referral doctor....yikes!)

I would also go to a larger learning hospital to get a revision. Sometimes its difficult for a surgeon to correct a mistake.

So sorry you are going thru this.
