Hey guys, I posted a while ago about my journey on biologics in which I started taking early last year. I was far to reliant on Pred and was constantly in and out of flares every 3/4 months. Getting in remission with Pred, then back to flaring again 3/4 months later. As a young guy in my early 30s, the quality of life in terms of the stop/start wasn’t what I wanted and with obviously the Pred being used far to much in a yearly period, my doctor decided I had to go down a different avenue to get into long term remission.

I Went on Infliximab last March. Prior to this, I had a colonoscopy which come out very positive and despite my flares and a horrendous case of C-Diff, my colon was actually pretty healthy apart from inflammation scarring. I have now been on biologics for nearly a year and I am still in full remission. A complete game changer for me and whilst I don’t want to jinx anything to much, my life is now back to normal again. I got married in Italy last October and have a little one on the way in April.

Thanks to biologics, I am currently in the longest remission period I have had in years. My next fusion is next week and strangely, I look forward to these infusions because I know I’m getting the treatment to continue my remission. No side affects either. Anyone else in long term remission with biologics?

Hi Tblock great to hear you are doing so well and congratulations on your wedding! When I used to have infusions I met other colitis and crohns patients and recall people who had been in remission for 4 years, 7 years and 10 years. So, everything is possible. I hope your bowel stays quiet for a very long time!

Yes, used Remicade for over 20 years and the majority of that time, I remained in remission. The worst time I had in all those years, was when my insurance refused to pay. All heck broke loose then and it took a couple of months after going back on Remicade to get back into remission. Switched to Entyvio a while back due to antibodies to Remicade and while waiting for insurance...again...went into a terrible flare. Ended up in hospital for two weeks and came out with Cdiff. Once I got on Entyvio,...took about two months...got back into remission. Biologics definitely help...a LOT. Good luck and enjoy a bit of each day. They certainly go by quickly!

TBlock, so glad to read that you are doing so well. It's encouraging to read when a member is doing great, it gives hope to others. So many are fearful of moving to the next level of treatment. I hope you have a long remission.

Take care.

Cheers guys. There’s definitely hope out there for us UC sufferers, which doesn’t involve the harsh steroids route.
