Hey Guys,

I think Quincy recommended Metamucil for constipation/proctitis? Anyone else use Metamucil for constipation? Or a bad case of proctitis?

I’ve read it can work miracles???

(Currently flaring. On 40mg of prednisone, hydrocortisone enemas, and entyvio every 4 weeks. Looks like entyvio has stopped working. about to switch to either remicade or stelara.)

I take Metamucil every night. I use the powder and a heaping teaspoon It doesn’t taste bad and if you drink it as soon as it’s mixed it doesn’t thicken up that soon. If you wait even a minute is starts to gel a bit and isn’t as pleasant to drink. There are also capsules but you have to take several at a time I believe and I’ve sometimes had issues with pills sticking in my throat. One thing to consider is whether you want the one with sugar or sugar free which uses an artificial sweetener. Also I’ve tried the cheaper generic brands and they seem to be much grittier.

The gummies contain inulin and other ingredients I wouldn't take on a regular basis. I use the capsules (right after meals only) which are just psyllium husk.

Regardless...point of using fibre supplements go beyond helping just constipation.

You can take 3 gummies 3x daily. Start slowly.

Awesome, thanks! I took 3 last night, and today I started with 2 with both breakfast and lunch.. maybe I should scale back to 1 per meal.

I appreciate the feedback!

You will know soon enough if it causes you grief by taking too much too quickly...it can always be adjusted.

Remember that limited rectal inflammation can cause constipation, so can too much fibre. Make sure you take in enough water during the day and at least a glass after the gummies.

You might just want to do breakfast and supper and slowly add the lunch dosage.

Keep us updated how they are working for you.

I appreciate your input! I had more formed bm’s today. I was definitely a little more bloated and gassy, but it was a welcome sight to have a little more consistency, and moved along a little easier.

I think dropping to 1 gummy per meal will be good. I’ll keep you posted!!

Thanks again!

Insulin IMO isn’t as good as psyllium. It gives me gas really bad. But see how you do.

I actually just got the regular psyllium husk metamucil capsules. Going to switch to this. I'm going to start out with 1 capsule 3 times a day. I will keep you guys posted! I appreciate all the input.

That was a quick change!
Do that for a few days and increase slowly.
Keep us updated.

LOL.. It seems to be helping me..

It's funny because yesterday I talked to my Doctor and mentioned the Metamucil, and he was like "NOOOOO", "The fiber is going to make things worse". I explained how I had less gas, bloating, and things were moving along easier, and he sounded very skeptical. I swear I feel like we know and learn way more than they do...

Has never made it worse for me...even through a flare. How BIG do they think the particles are in metamucil capsules...sheesh.

TT...😁 👍

Fiber of any kind can cause a lot of grief to very inflamed guts. It swells the stool, distends the bowel, and that can be painful for many.!
Some also get great benefit from it.
Great that it's helping you.

Add that not all fibre is created equal. There are many kinds of fibre I won't eat because of discomfort. Some symptoms are also misunderstood as are food symptoms and action in the digestive tract.

Psyllium husk in metamucil is both soluble and insoluble, and there is always a difference between not enough and too much. Allowing the dosing phase to start small and increase slowly seems subjective common sense.
That's why the capsules are a good option. Plus take WITH food so it acts like food.
