Hello again, I have been prescribed prednisone to address another inflammatory condition. I know it can help but I am really afraid to take it given all that I have read about the side effects. Am just wanting to hear from those who have been on it short term whether the side effects are common. Anyone take this and not have awful side effects? I recognize that it may impact everyone differently and you don’t know until you take it. I guess I am just looking to hear some positive experiences with it. Everything I hear is negative. Thanks.

Every time I've taken prednisone, I've had jittery hands, tingling in fingertips, brain fog, and vision problems, insatiable hunger, weight gain, elevated blood sugar, and wobbly legs and shaking hands...own medical terms! LOL Upon tapering, the side effects continue until I get below 20 mg. Then I usually get a bit of acne...which I don't normally have. I HATE prednisone, but it does help with the symptoms of UC. Good luck and get off of it as quickly as you can.

I should add that I have been prescribed the pred for gout and not my UC although I know I may see some benefits there too.

I’m one of those lucky ones that don’t get a lot of side effects from prednisone. I’ve been on a dosage as high as 60 a day. Of course it’s been 4 years since I’ve been on it so memory is a bit dull.

The main issue I had was sleeping. Taking it in the morning helps. I would also take a half a Xanax at night to help with sleep. Falling asleep was hard as well as staying asleep. I think I was more irritable than usual too. But no acne, moon face.

I don’t think you’ll have any major problems as you’ll be on it only a short time.

A one week course of pred won't do any lasting damage. Have a colleague who took it for gout (i assume a similar dosing strategy) and he felt much better. But his wife banned him from drinking wine and the poor guy had a sabbatical in Italy shortly thereafter and wasn't allowed to drink 🤣
