Hi everyone,
My doctor is now recommending I go on Humira. I was diagnosed with proctitis back in 2020 and no medication seems to alleviate the bloody stool. Literally everything else is alleviated by the meds except for that which makes me sad at times. I’m only 25 and I’ve read the articles about Humira and potential side effects. Can anyone share their experience?

What medications have you tried, and for how long exactly?

What is the extent location of your UC,
what exactly are your symptoms,
and how much have you improved since diagnosis?

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve tried Budesonide, Proctofoam, Hydrocortizone enema, mesalamine and Uceris. My symptoms are urgency, abdominal pain, gas, and bloody and liquid stool. In the beginning the only symptom i had was bloody stool and abdominal pain. Over the last few months I have started to vomit as well. Seems like it’s getting more severe as i try different medications. When i began treatment they told me it was just mild proctitis. Now, I am led to believe it’s moderate.

I see...you've used all the first-line meds. I suggest you add Humira to your title so that those with experience will be able to help you.

It appears you tried steroid enemas, but have you tried mesalamine suppositories or mesalamine enemas? They actually work better (statistically speaking, that is) than their steroid counterparts when it comes to proctitis.

Did you have a full colonoscopy when you were diagnosed with proctitis? Have you had any recent tests since you started vomiting (blood tests, stool tests)?

I started Humira in 2016 and it worked great for me as far as my UC. Took 8 weeks for it to kick in, but once it did...I was in remission, and stayed in remission for a long long time.

One of the side effects that I know of, for me....Over the years ...there were some days where I felt a little flu like.

My suggestion is, if you start Humira, also take a bunch of supplements, the ones typically recommended for helping your immune system. I believe those supplements, plus regularly going to the gym...helped me to continually ward off the bugs once I got one.

Hi Rusty,

I just started Humira 5 weeks ago. So far, the results have been WORSE. I was in a pretty stable place before. I'm looking forward to week 8...

What supplements did you take? Just ordered Vitamin D3

Hi

There a ton of stuff on YouTube. The guys I like best are Dr. Eric Berg and Dr. Michael Gregor.

I probably take too many things. I use Swanson vitamins . Com

Make sure you match 1 mcg of K2 for every 100 iu of D3. This is critical, so the D3 gets used properly.

If you don’t take K2 with it, D3 can cause problems.

So, for me, I take 5000 iu every day of D3 with 50 mcg of K2
