Filgotinib is a JAK inhibitor which means it's from the same family as xeljanz (tofacitinib) and rinvoq (upadacitinib). The difference is that xeljanz blocks JAK 1,2 and 3 while filgotinib blocks JAK1 only. There are to my knowledge no comparative studies of the different JAK inhibitors but the odds are xeljanz would have worked for him too...
(also the miserable old cynic in me has heard the whole story of "I would have to wear a bag and couldn't do my job/hobby of X/Y/Z and then this miracle drug saved me from surgery" a few times before....and 50% success rate is pretty standard for new UC therapies)

I dont know about
biologics and ilk...but I agree with poopy's opinion.
Regarding information, I would classify it as lacking facts and sensationally biased.

I just watched a Youtube video that suggests that Filgotinib could be particularly useful for people with Crohn's. Looking at the stats on these videos (there's some overlap with the two presentations below) it seems that Tofacitinib (non specific JAK inhibitor) is no better than placebo for Crohn's patients, whereas the Filgotinib (Jak 1 inhibitor) is more effective than placebo for Crohn's patients.
