It's pretty easy to stockpile supplies. I had a load of stuff when I had a temp ostomy. I also used a lot of different types. I was really experimenting and giving all of the various products a fair try. Realistically, with my end ileo, I was quite happy with the function and with the supplies available. I could take my pick and wear many different brands and styles and they all worked well.
Funny how stressed people who have never even bought a supply are about supplies they will most likely never need... In my opinion, being dependent on supplies is no worse than being dependent on meds, or therapy, or income really 😁 dependencies are awful. Responsibilities are pretty bad too! Food dependency is the worst. I am so sick of having to buy, cook, and eat all of the time. Gosh, and if there's some apocalypse, we will all be toothless and without toilet paper, without clean drinking water, without internet... Can you imagine?
Yeah, because ostomy supplies are so comparable to edible food which is globally available anywhere there's humans. It takes 5 seconds to google "what happens if you don't have a spare ostomy bag" to see all the nightmares ostomites have gone through when the unexpected happens.
Pretty sure I could find food if I ate everything that's on me. *eye roll*
Thanks for totally mocking my concern. You really shouldn't downplay the realities of an ostomy. There are pros and cons, like anything. Dependency on meds is not the same, I don't agree. I can get prednisone anywhere for $10 for a month's supply and I just have to take it once a day. My UC is not gone but I can still be out in the world and relatively functional.
