Hi all-- feeling pretty desperate here; flare is the worst I've ever had. Currently on Uceris orally and rectally (I'm allergic to 5-ASAs), and it's not doing anything. Dr wants me to start oral prednisone both to help me manage symptoms (I'm in terrible pain w liquid stools every hour or so, including throughout the night) & to help her w being able to differentiate between inflammation and dysplasia during scope coming up on May 13th (I had low grade dysplasia in 2018). I'm terrified that the vaccine may worsen my flare, which I'm scared might mean a perforated bowel or something even worse than what I'm experiencing now, and-- I really want to be vaccinated. I also don't want the vaccine to have less of a chance at being effective if I start a higher steroid dose at the same time. If folks could respond if a) an rNA vaccine (either) made their IBD symptoms worse 2) any thoughts on how I space this all out (within the next month). Thanks so much.

I'm avoiding the vaccine until my flare is under control. In the past, vaccines have increased my inflammation.

They're currently doing trials in the UK on IBD patients who are immune suppressed to see what their covid antibody status is 6 weeks post-vaccine. There should be more reliable data soon.

Check the other thread(s) on vaccines on this page. Lots of people have had mRNA vaccine and noone flared.

I had an Astrazeneca vaccine 2 weeks ago and did not flare (in fact i just measured my fecal calprotectin and it was <5).
