Hi everyone,

The pred has stopped sons bleeding on day 4, we will continue the 40mg prior to the taper schedule of 5mg per week.

My question......

Quincy can help perhaps. I want to try avoid steroids again, at least for a while. Should I ask for maintenance enemas or suppositories ? He has a break from rectals at present however the plan is to go back on them soon.

Overall happy the bleeding has stopped. Stools very formed also.

Since I've not been on pred, I dont have the experience regarding flaring and tapering, although, I and others have suggested enemas while tapering. Since pred reduces the body's ability to produce cortisol, some tend to be up and down flare-wise while it levels out and the body starts producing it on its own again. The enemas at nightly should help continue or maintain the healing that prednisone reached at treatment dosage and while tapering.

It's good your son has had such a favourable improvement at this point. Some have started the enemas back again after tapering or if tapering has had many regressions and they're needed to give that extra boost.

See how your son is doing and discuss it with his doctor whether they will be part of the plan eventually.
