Hello everyone,

I saw that the Ostomies board is pretty quiet, so I decided to post my question here:

In 2016, I had my J-pouch surgery, the Dr. said I would have like a colonoscopy type test every year. So today (of all days on my birthday) they called & my test is on May 7th. Now every time that the test comes up, I get all stressed. I wanted to ask does anyone else get stressed when they have to see a Doctor or get tested? How did you control it?

Thanks

Sorry to hear this causing angst for you.
I am having my takedown surgery on May 7th.
What I can tell you is that I was getting a colonoscopy two times per year and then yearly and I just assumed everything would be fine.
Then it wasn’t fine, and I surrendered my colon.
I went through some dark days last fall as I did not know at first that jpouch was an option and I thought I would need a permanent osteomy. I was terrified.
I am very grateful no more UC and no more chance of CRC.
Question, as you have had your pouch for 4 plus years now, how has been your experience? If you have had no issues or minor issues, just think of it like your yearly colonoscopy.
I am really stressed about the butt-burn I am going to endure as the jpouch goes live, and the many BM’s I will experience the first few weeks.
I am assuming all this is behind you and you and your pouch are having a happy life together.
Please stay strong and know that everything will be fine specially if you had no symptoms of anything wrong.

I don't know why you're having a yearly test. I haven't had any type of scope in years. I don't go to the surgeon, or the gi, anymore and I haven't in years. Last trip to one or the other was the surgeon for butt burn, which he gave me a cream for and that was the end of that.

My experience has been good. I'm not taking anymore UC meds, I'm going to the bathroom 4-6 times a day, & I can eat anything even though I try to stay away from Spicy Foods. And I can go out the house more often.

They say I'm at a risk for cancer
