After talking to my PCP about whether the Pfizer would work for me since there is concern that being on Remicade might prevent me from developing the antibodies, he sent me for an antibody test. I got the results and I thought it was negative for antibodies, but he said is is showing positive for antibodies but he didn't sound very definitive about that. Anyone ever had this test and can interpret? I had my 2nd dose of Pfizer on 3/7

Here are the test results:

Component Your Value Standard Range Flag
Misc Test Result Flexitest 1 A
Flexitest 1
SARS CoV 2 Ab (IgG)Spike, Semi QN
SARS CoV2,IgG,Spke,SemiQN >20.00 H Index <1.00

INDEX INTERPRETATION
----- --------------
<1.00 Negative
> or = 1.00 Positive

This test is intended to help identify individuals
with antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). The results
of this semi-quantitative test should not be
interpreted as an indication or degree of immunity or
protection from reinfection.

A test result that is 1.00 or more (Positive) means an
immune response to a COVID-19 spike vaccine or recent
or prior infection with SARS-CoV-2. False positive
results for the test may occur due to cross-reactivity
from pre-existing antibodies or other possible causes.

A test result that is less than 1.00 (Negative) means
that antibodies were not detected in the blood sample.
This could mean that the patient has not been
previously infected with SARS-CoV-2. False negative
results for the test may occur if the
patient's
antibodies have not reached a sufficient level for the
test to be able to detect them. Antibodies can take up
to two to three weeks (sometimes longer) to develop
after someone is infected or final vaccine dose is
administered. How long antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 last
after infection is not known.

That didn't line up properly.
Your Value = Flexitest 1
Standard Range was blank
Flag = A

It says COVID IgG greater than 20. Greater than 1 is positive, so you have lots of antibodies 👍

Ambling, right beside that it says Index <1 and that means negative. When I tried to search for more info about this test it sounded like the Index number was the number to look at, but this is so confusing. One place it says I have a high number and then it says I have a low number. I wish my doc sounded more definitive, but when I asked about that index number he said he didn't know what that meant.

I did this test hoping for peace of mind, but I don't feel more peaceful lol

Yes it is confusing! It actually doesn't make sense.
It's not clear what your result actually was.

Those numbers are really the range that is used, where 1-20 is not conclusive.

Ugghh... sorry. Hopefully there are some more numbers somewhere?

I was just tested for antibodies too. Will get my results soon. I joined the research study Prevent Covid at UNC where they are studying IBD patient response to the vaccines.

So also interested in how to interpret results.

Flowers -- how did you join that study? Would it be too late for me to join? Do you have a link?

Ambling -- there were no other numbers on the results -- I copied everything except disclaimer stiff at the bottom that didn't have any results or info

You have to be less than 90 days from your 1st shot to be in the study. I will see if I can find the link. I think someone on here shared it before.

I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I cannot find the preliminary results. Do you have to be a member? I am in the study but I don’t get my blood test until Saturday,

Thanks!!! I signed up, took the first survey and called them about scheduling the blood test (left a message for them to call back). I am still within 90 days, but just barely (80 days) so hoping there's still time to get the test.

They called back and said that I will be able to get the test and to watch my email over the next couple days. She said they have some leeway on that 90 day limit so I should be fine.

Flowers -- how long ago did you have the test?

Something is definitely going on with that. It only works for me when I click on the link from the email they sent me, not from the URL I copied and pasted (even though it's the same address).

Ok I went through one of the links to the study in my email and was able to see it. Thanks!

The Prevent COVID study results and the lab requisition come through as a weird MS word protected document. I get in by signing in with my Windows ID and password. Requesting the one time code has never worked for me.

Anywho... had my test 5/3 and got results on 5/13. I scored a 75, so plenty of antibodies. So relieved!

Ha! I just used that same word "relieved" in my other post to you. I hope I can breathe that same sigh of relief. I am going today for the blood test.

I had problems with that secure email they sent with the lab order in it. It wouldn't open for me. I had to keep emailing them until they sent an unencrypted attachment. One of the people running the study said they have over 3000 people in the study. We should have some good answers about the vaccine with IBD by the end of the study.

Oh that’s good to know CC! 3000 people is a good number to get some results. I had a really strong reaction after shot #2 with fever for 24 hrs plus heavy chills and the about 4 days of extreme fatigue so seems for me that did correlate into a strong immune response to the vaccine.

Hope you get a good number too CC!

Great news! I had my test about 10 days ago and have heard nothing. I am very nervous. I looked at the results for all so far and it looks like 7% are not responding with 200 tested so far but they don’t say if they received a specific medication or vaccine. I think that info would be very helpful.

I didn’t have that severe of reaction. I had a large bump where the injection was the rest of the day, a 99.8 degree temperature all the next and joints were super achy.

"Index Value" refers to the reference range/cut-off, not your result. Your result is the one under "Your Value". You'll see references to a positive test as "abnormal" or "flagged" because this test was designed to determine previous infection and no previous infection (no antibodies) is the "normal" value.

Hope you are right, noodles! It says that an Index value of <1 is negative for antibodies and above that it says my Index is <1 -- right beside the other number that was >20H. I do like the thought that A means abnormal and than mean antibodies! First time being abnormal would be a good thing! This is the most confusing test result I have ever seen.

Will be interesting to see what the study's antibody test result is. Won't have that for a little while though.

For now, I am keeping my mask on when I go anywhere since there is no way to know whether that person who isn't wearing a mask was vaccinated or not. Once I have the study results I might relax that a little depending on whether Covid cases in this area continue to decline or not.

I got my results back from the study's antibody test. My level is 3 and anything over 1 is positive for antibodies. Not swimming in antibodies the way Flowers is but I am happy that the vaccine worked! I was pretty concerned since I am on max dosage of Remicade. I suspect I will need a booster shot of vaccine at some point.

Twingirls, did you get your results?

I read more about this test and it tells how much of an immune response you have. Since my number is so low it doesn't sound like I have had much of a response. I am going to still continue to double mask and keep my distance from people. I was lax the other day when I was in a car with someone who has been vaccinated. But I doubt I will do that again without a mask until numbers of new cases drop more in this area.
