Has anyone experienced costochondritis with their uc? I was diagnosed with it years ago by my primary physician. Sometimes tylenol does absolutely nothing for it. Even though I know I shouldn't be taking it.

Why should you not be taking Tylenol?

You could possibly consider LDN.

I've had costochondritis twice in the last 2 years. They gave me difene which I didn't realise I shouldn't take and that caused some bleeding which luckily stopped as soon as I stopped taking the medication. Since then I've just put up with the pain, fortunately it usually doesn't last too long.

Have you tried a heating pad on your chest, this helps some people. Tylenol is ok to take, it's the NSAIDS that you need to avoid.

Hope you get some relief.

I'll definitely try a heating pad. I sometimes get it once a couple months. It usually lasts a couple of days or longer if I don't take anything for it. The tylenol helps as well.

My primary care physician was the one that told me it was common for people with UC. When I asked my GI doc, she felt there was no connection between the two.

I had costochondritis when I had an undiagnosed severe vit D deficiency (I had UC but back in those days I wasn't routinely tested for vit D). The costochondritis resolved when I sorted out the vit D deficiency which was a relief as it was extremely painful.

angee...LDN is Low Dose Naltrexone.
It would be a good idea to have blood testing done.

I developed costochondritis and had my first UC flare up in 2020. It took me until now to realize they were connected. Lots of PT helped my costochondritis. Also, find a good ortho that specializes in regenerative medicine. I was given prolotherapy shots which seemed to help but took about 8 weeks before it was noticeable. My costochondritis was persistent and really frustrating for me because I work out a lot and couldn’t even do a push up. However, I finally got it under control now. I’m going to try hyperbaric chamber for next time I have a flare up will share if I have good results. I’m trying to avoid the prescription route.

Two years ago I started experiencing sudden sharp pains in my sternum that would feeling crippling but where short lived once I stopped doing what ever was aggravating it. The feeling was so intense I even suspected it was my heart when it first started happening. The action that triggered it the most was a push-up motion. I also would get triggers and tender spots in my pec muscles. I started bike riding a lot during the pandemic and that seemed to make it a lot worse. Rest and resistance band training was key to my recovery. Doctors were never able to determine a root cause however they did not know I had UC
