58 year old male. I was diagnosed with UC in the spring of 2016. Started Humira in the fall of 2016. Took 8 weeks almost to the day before I saw any impact…then…wham…one day woke up…solid BM…total remission.
I was in remission from then until the spring of 2020. Got pneumonia. ER doctor said, let’s stop the Humira until you get well.
When the pneumonia cleared up. Still remission. I talked my GI into letting me try “just diet and exercise.”
Stayed in remission for 6 months. Then…
Went back on Humira. Maintenance dose. Eight weeks. Not working. Then induction dosing of Humira. Another eight weeks. Still very loose/watery. Checked blood. Massive antibodies. My body simply said no to the Humira.
Now, here I am, starting Xeljanz.
So, hindsight 20/20? I should have went right back on the Humira after the pneumonia. I believe being off it so long was not a good decision. I can’t blame anyone but me for that.
But. Humira from the fall of 2016 until the spring of 2020? Fantastic!
Draw your own conclusions. Just sharing in hopes this helps someone.
