WELP, 13 days post my fourth hospitalized, my leg, which had been sore in a "pulled a muscle" sort of way, was swollen, so off I went to urgent care, and of course, I have two blood clots in my leg. They couldn't give me blood thinners because I am actively bleeding (and awaiting surgery and another blood transfusion), so they put in a Inferior Vena Cava Filter. This was a ~20 min outpatient procedure where they inserted this weird metal thing through a vein in my groin. I left an hour later. Apparently, it needs to come out in 6-8 weeks, but not before I can get on blood thinners, but I can't do that until after my first surgery.
I am super frustrated by this. To add to it, they didn't refer me to a hematologist to monitor, or discuss follow-up needs. The interventional radiologist just said to raise my leg, walk some, and use compression stockings to help heal, but gave me no info on the grade of compression. Has anyone had this happen? Did you use compression stockings? What kind? Did you get advice to do anything else? I am just trying to minimize my suffering until this is over.
