Quick question for those of you with an ileostomy. Do you need to be careful when people hug you?!

My young niece and nephew were excitedly jumping on me and hugging me when I saw them recently and it made me wonder whether I'd have to tell any young children including future grandchildren to be careful and not jump on me or hug me too tightly if I had a stoma bag. I guess in my mind the bag might burst if a small person launches themselves on it!

I'm just curious.

Thanks Andreita! It might sound silly but I didn't know that was a thing! I only knew about fabric belts that help keep the bag flat eg if you're wearing tight clothing.

Yep, what Andina said! My surgeon said those can be helpful if you have pets, too (my cat likes to keep her claws half out a lot of the time!).

Ouch - cat claws on a stoma would not be fun!

Nope. Or popping the bag, haha.
