I’m an American and just went to refill my rx for brand (not generic) Asacol HD with my usual Canadian pharmacy only to be told that this rx sourced from Canadian manufacturer, Allergan Inc, is no longer available ... any one ever order Brand 800 mg Asacol from manufacturers sourced in Turkey (Tillots Pharma) or UK (Allergan) If so any unexpected side effects?

Always taken brand - hesitant to switch meds especially because I know what I’ve used for 25+ years has worked ... just irks me that the pharmaceutical company has cornered the market and blatantly over charges ... Asacol has been around for decades no reason for the cost to be as high as it is except for greed

Have you discussed this issue with your prescribing physician? If you have Rx insurance, will it accept prior authorization from your physician stating that you need to remain on brandname med? / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

My experience with insurance lately is that they are much more hardline than they used to be. They will either reject it outright — or maybe even worse — let you get it, but not at a reduced cost (hah!) and the cost may be more than you can afford.

You should check with Asacol manufacturer and see if they have a free or copay program. I used to get Apriso for free from the manufacturer because insurance wouldn’t cover it and the price was more than I could afford and I didn’t qualify for the copay program ( Medicare recipients arent allowed to use copay programs). I get my migraine medication the same way so have dealt with several companies in this way. For the most part they are very friendly and helpful. Doesn’t hurt to ask!!!

@Flowersgal - unfortunately Asacol manufacturer does not offer patient assistance ... it’s a golden goose for them why would they offer discounts to suffering patients?! My apologies for my flippant response - pretty cynical after years of watching the pharmaceutical company significantly increase the cost resulting with insurance companies no longer providing coverage for it
