Food for thought. Environmental factors have been linked to Ulcerative Colitis. In the last few years I have stumbled across a few studies linking PFAs and UC. All started out on a Netflix special about DuPont and 3M. Following the largest human study ever on the effects of chemical exposure on a population, Ulcerative Colitis was one of many diseases with higher incidence due to contaminated water supply near a dupont plant that processed PFAs. Interestingly, food packaging contains PFAS and they are basically ubiquitous in our environment (forever chemicals).

I'm guess the levels in our packaging are much different than what the people were intaking from Saint Gobain/3M/Dupont. It probably wasn't food grade either.

I'm not shocked by the rise in instances of IBDs around the sites. Ingesting harmful chemicals at high levels would probably mess you with your digestive tract and many other things.

I don't claim to know a lot about it but the main application for Dupont/3M was Teflon prior to that particular chemical being banned.

I’ve got UC a few times in the past 5 years or so and always drink water from an old Gatorade bottle during workouts. Sometimes it sits in my car in hot sun, but I do rinse before filling. Not doing that anymore. Could that be what set off my flares?
