You just cherry-picked a quote out of context.

You should have included this in your quoting of that article:

"To help fill that void, researchers at France’s Strasbourg University Hospital recruited 292 RA patients whose disease didn’t respond to initial treatment with an anti-TNF drug. Half were randomly assigned to receive a different anti-TNF medicine, while the other half were given a non-TNF biologic. (Physicians were allowed to choose which specific drug in each category a patient would take.) One year later, 60% of the patients given a non-TNF biologic had maintained a good or moderate response to the medication, compared with 43% of those treated with a second anti-TNF drug. Moreover, patients who got a non-TNF biologic were twice as likely to achieve remission as those given an alternative anti-TNF.

“The results show a clear superiority… of changing the mechanism of action: when you fail one anti-TNF, it is better to use a drug [that doesn’t] again target TNF,” says lead author Jacques-Eric Gottenberg, MD, PhD. He adds that this study confirms observational studies and registry data."

Look at that first sentence again:
"To help fill that void, researchers at France’s Strasbourg University Hospital recruited 292 RA patients whose disease didn’t respond to initial treatment with an anti-TNF drug."

These are *primary non-responders" to anti-TNFs.

We (poopydoop and I) have said all along that primary non-responders to anti-TNFs should switch to another class of medication.

The links you are providing are making my case for me and contradicting what you have claimed.

Thanks everyone for their insight and perspectives. Lots to take in. When I started Humira, I had a response but over time my symptoms came back, so we started over but moved to weekly injections. That worked for a while but symptoms slowly came back again. The weird part is I seem to flare up the same time every year. I didn't develop antibodies but my trough levels were always low. My GI has always told me that Remicade was kind of like the catch all for my class of biologics. That I should switch to that before moving on to othe meds. I'm on board. So here is something else to think about in regards to biologics. My daughter has JRA. She has since she was 2. She was on methotrexate for years until we decided to put her on a biological drug. Her doc recommended Orencia. We started with injections which just got approved for children at the time. She didn't have much of a response to them over the next few months. Instead of switching meds we decided to try infusions of Orencia. She had a great response to the infusions. She has been on monthly Orencia infusions for about a decade now and is doing well. How could the same medication be less effective on the delivery method?

That's interesting about your daughter. Maybe it's because infusions are going right into the bloodstream? I don't know how Orencia self injections are done, but with Humira the injections are below the skin in a fatty part of the body not directly into the bloodstream.

I had low levels of Humira so we upped to weekly shots. That wasn't working any better and when we checked the levels again I had loads of antibodies and switched to Remicade. I have had my remi levels tested a couple times and we made dosage adjustments. Last time it was checked my remi levels are high (no antibodies). We are checking again before my next infusion since I am seeing a new doc and we wants to make sure everything is good with the blood work.

I hope remi works as well for you as it seems to be for me.
