How fast can I end my prednisone taper of 5 mg?

This prednisone course did not help. I got no positive benefits and only side effects….Like little to no sleep almost ever night.

I did:

40 mg for 13 days
20 mg for 10 days
10 mg for 10 days
Now I’m in the
5 mg for 10 days part.

Can I cut that 5 mg for 10 days part short???

Everyone hates pred but, sorry, you cannot rush the low doses. It's most, most important to take it slow at the end to avoid withdrawal, and resume normal adrenal function. You're 30 days into pred which limits your options. Follow doctors taper schedule is safest.

I’m completely off the prednisone. I think the 17th was the last day I took a 5 mg tablet.

I’ve had 2 Inflectra. Best I cen tell. Working well.

I’m now on an antibiotic called ciprofloxacin 500 mg tablet every 12 hours.

I know have a small skin abscess that’s slowly draining. It’s on the right side of my butt hole. More on the cheek than in a cavaty or sore spot.

Always something new.

Cipro could cause lack of appetite. Sorry to hear about the abscess but GREAT news about your UC!

Ditto with Stray dog. For my probiotics I use SCD yogurt that I make at home. It really helped me alot. I was on Cipro 500 mg 2x a day for 8 months. The yogurt was a pain to make but since it's 24 hours it does not have lactose so that didn't bother me. Plus it really helped me while on the Cipro.

For the appetite I made the SCD chicken bone broth. I drank the broth between trying to eat the carrots and chicken. Every once in a while I would be able to drink a Walmart brand meal replacement shake. I also could eat Lays potatoe chips and plain beef jerky. (My spouse made it in the oven with alot of salt on it but no other spices. I could only eat 1 little piece a day but it was protein. I chewed on it for a really long time. My nurse said chewing on gum or even jerky can lessen nausea? Unsure but did it and it seemed to help, but it could have been all in my head.) Scrambled eggs. Plain white toast. Ginger tea. I kept a little fan blowing the food smells away from me. The smells were the worse! Just some thoughts.

Also...coming down off of Prednisone for me caused me to be tired for 2 or 3 weeks afterwards.

Rusty, I hope you have been taking a probiotic, Cipro kills the good flora needed to keep the gut in balance. I cannot tolerate probiotics, however, when I have to take an antibiotic I always take OTC Florastor, it's a good one. I hope you heal up soon.

Have you contacted your doc? When it comes to pred I always follow the taper schedule (or close to it) given to me by my doc so I never experienced any withdrawal symptoms. I always taper slowly at the end to give my body time to get back to normal. Sounds like you had an awful time with pred. It's one of those drugs I love to hate. It works miracles for me but it's just sucky when I am on it -- I get wildly emotional and my blood sugar level increase. Those are the worst of the side effects for me. Never had issues with sleeping or a heart rate that high.

The heart rate was worse when on the prednisone.

The numbers I am reporting now are my best in over two months.
