I guess it wouldn't hurt to get your blood levels of vitamin D checked to see it is above 50. Taking it with zinc is synergistic with it.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34684596/
Mortality Rate Close to Zero Could Theoretically Be Achieved at 50 ng/ml
Conclusions:
Despite ongoing vaccinations, we recommend raising serum 25(OH)D levels to above 50 ng/mL to prevent or mitigate new outbreaks due to escape mutations or decreasing antibody activity.

This isn't a government study. It's a paper written by independent researchers in Germany that analyzed data from various sources.

Having said that, the hypothesis is intriguing and maybe should be studied.

Having adequate levels of D is always a good thing. I never knew that I was a little low until I read about checking the levels on this forum. My doc would never have checked without me asking .

Right, not from a single government study but from searching thru scientific publications.

the Article said...
Systematic literature search was performed to identify retrospective cohort as well as clinical studies on COVID-19 mortality rates versus D3 blood levels. Mortality rates from clinical studies were corrected for age, sex, and diabetes.

Analyzing data of other studies can be problematic when drawing conclusions. We know that minorities in the United States have worse outcomes when they get Covid. We also know from studies that people with darker skin color on average have lower levels of vitamin D. We also know that they have higher rates of comorbidities. So what causes their Covid infections to be worse? Lower levels of vitamin D?

Taking vitamin D is safe but so is taking a Covid vaccine and we know DIRECTLY from studies that the vaccines are safe and very effective.

"Mortality rates from clinical studies were corrected for age, sex, and diabetes." I wonder what they "corrected" for. Will have to take another look to see if it says anything. I didn't know that sex was a factor in covid mortality, but we all know that age and diabetes can have a significant impact. If they "corrected" to eliminate anyone with diabetes or were over 65 that seems like it would reduce the value of this paper because they were already looking at people who had a lower mortality risk in the first place.

Vit D is definitely a good thing to have checked, but without more info I don't think anyone should count on it for protection against Covid
