This is my first time having major side effects from an iron IV, or at least I think it's the iron IV. That's what I'm coming here to ask... if anyone else has had this. I got monoferric 1500mg 5 days ago. I was fine for the first few days, but a couple of days ago I started having bowel pain, watery diarrhea, low energy, joint pain, etc.

It's mostly the diarrhea that's concerning me. It's feeling like I'm losing major progress.

Has anyone experienced this from iron IVs?

Have you called your GI?

Mayo clinic and other sites show nausea, cramping, bloating, GI pain, joint pain and lethargy listed as side effects to iron infusions. The watery diarrhea.. I didn't see that. I haven't had an iron infusion so I am not much help. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon.

Please let us know how you are!

I don't have a GI and I don't want one. I'm just wondering what other people's experiences are. Monoferric does say diarrhea as a possibility, but none of the literature tells me how long this can last for. It's getting on my nerves!

I had a very positive experience with Ferriinject so would not know if the brand makes a difference. I only had 500 though so maybe the 1500 dose caused you a reaction because it was high? It might be a better idea to take it in increments of 500 in future if tolerance is an issue? Or try a different brand. In any case now that it is in your body it can’t be undone I think. You will have to look at ways to control the inflammation it is causing you. It could also be that IV iron - irrespective of the brand - doesn’t suit you in which case you will need to look at other options

Had something similar happen to me. Three days after Monoferric infusion. I thought I had COVID again because of the flu symptoms. Made my gut hyperactive too. Had a couple watery bowel movements which really freaked me out. Went away in a week or so.

I'm glad to hear it eventually way. Tomorrow will mark 1 week since the infusion, and today was my worst diarrhea. I gave in and took immodium because I was starting to feel weak. The mechanical irritation of diarrhea is increasing my bowel inflammation, I can feel it. So I didn't have much choice. Still no blood, which is the only saving grace for the time being.
